“I love it. But I don’t know if I could wear it.”

I’ve heard this from women for nearly twenty years.

And I’ve always found it fascinating.

Because often, the piece they’re questioning is the very one they were drawn to first.

So when did we become afraid of being noticed?

And why, just as we become more confident in our own taste, do we sometimes become more cautious about showing it?

I’ve been exploring this in my latest Creative Reflections.

It’s about jewellery, but really it’s about something much bigger: getting older, knowing what you like, and giving yourself permission to show a little more of who you are.

Perhaps we don’t need to become bolder.

Perhaps we just need to stop asking, “Can I wear this?”

And start asking, “Do I love this?”

There’s a brooch sitting on my desk that I made years ago. I don’t wear it every day. Some weeks I forget it’s there. But I never put it away.

We talk so much about what women lose as we get older.

But at 57, I’m becoming far more interested in what age gives back.

Less second-guessing. Less need for approval. More trust in my own voice. More freedom to experiment, change my mind and become more fully myself.

I’ve noticed this in my work.

After more than twenty years of designing and making jewellery, I no longer expect every idea to become a successful piece. Some designs come together beautifully. Others teach me something and lead nowhere.

I used to find that unsettling. Now I understand that it isn’t a failure of the creative process. It is the creative process.

Perhaps that’s one of the gifts of ageing. Doubt doesn’t disappear, but it no longer gets the final say.

It emerges when every element belongs together.

That idea has quietly guided every piece I’ve designed for inSync, but I’ve never really put it into words until now.

I opened the Archive this week, and it feels a little like opening old studio drawers.

Inside are the pieces I won’t be making again.

Discontinued designs.
Final colours.
Last pieces from the studio drawers.
A few old collector favourites.

Many of these pieces hold beautiful memories for me, but the collection needs room to keep moving, and new work needs space to emerge.

Some Archive pieces have already found their collectors. A few are still there, quietly waiting to be discovered.

If there is something you have had your eye on, or a piece that has stayed with you, this is a lovely moment to return to it.

Once the Archive closes, these pieces won’t be made again.

So many conversations.
So many familiar faces.
So many women trying pieces on and seeing themselves differently in the mirror.

That moment never gets old.

There’s something interesting about watching people discover contemporary jewellery in person. The hesitation. The curiosity. Then the shift when they realise the piece is actually light, wearable, comfortable, and somehow feels like them.

I’ve brought new designs, old favourites, and pieces that rarely leave the studio.

If you’re coming this weekend, come say hello, try things on, play, experiment, and find the piece that keeps calling you back.

The calm before the crowd.
Boxes everywhere. Half-finished displays. Coffee in hand. Problem solving in real time.

Yesterday was setup day at The Big Design Market and today the doors have opened.

There’s something I love about this part. Watching a blank space slowly become a small world that reflects years of ideas, sketches, experiments, failures, and tiny details most people will never notice.

Every piece on this stand started as a line drawing in my sketchbook. Now they’re ready to be tried on, styled, collected, and hopefully taken home by someone who connects with them.

If you’re in Melbourne this weekend, come say hello. Try things on. Play. Ask questions. See how incredibly light contemporary art jewellery can actually feel.
