Playful in proportion, serious in craft.

Six native Australian animals reborn as sculptural objets d'art, each one crafted from a licensed, ethically sourced emu egg.

The emu egg has long held a place in silversmithing history, prized by 18th century Australian and English craftsmen as an exotic curiosity for table centrepieces.

We've taken it further: no longer a support for the form, the egg becomes the animal—finished with details that include hand cast gold and sterling silver, Tasmanian Blackwood, and Cabochon blue sapphires. Perfected by hand by our work masters.

Artisans of the Exceptional 🏆

For more than a decade, the Melbourne Cup has been handmade by artisan goldsmiths W.J. Sanders—sister company to ABC Bullion, Australia’s leading precious metals specialist and the official manufacturer of the Lexus Melbourne Cup trophy.

Each is hand forged by W.J. Sanders craftspeople with Australian ABC Bullion precious metals, to exacting VRC standards—the continuation of a legacy steeped in excellence.

Affectionately known as the ‘Loving Cup’, the trophy's iconic tri-handled design symbolises unity between jockey, trainer and owner.

The 2026 Cup weighs over 1.8kg and contains almost 60 ounces of 18-carat gold. Comprising 44 individually shaped components, the Cup is a symbol of craftsmanship, excellence and national pride—and for the first time, is valued at over $1 million.

A journey thousands of years in the making, the gold for the 2026 Melbourne Cup has travelled over 2,500 kilometres from the Red Centre to the heart of Australian gold refining, ABC Refinery, where it has been transformed into pure 18-carat ABC Bullion Gold.

Here, the artisans at W.J. Sanders—with an unparalleled dedication to their craft—breathe life into the Cup.

For the first time in its 165-year history, the coveted Lexus Melbourne Cup has been handcrafted using pure Australian ABC Bullion gold sourced entirely from the Northern Territory.

Marking another significant milestone for the Cup, the esteemed trophy has also reached a value of $1 million.

Since 2016, ABC Bullion has been the official trophy manufacturer for the Victoria Racing Club (VRC), responsible for producing the full suite of Melbourne Cup trophies. Each is handmade by W.J. Sanders craftspeople with Australian ABC Bullion precious metals, to exacting VRC standards.

The gold in the 2026 trophy has been sourced from Newmont’s Tanami operation, before being meticulously refined, poured and fabricated in Sydney by ABC Refinery and W.J. Sanders over more than 250 hours of expert craftsmanship.

The 2026 Lexus Melbourne Cup weighs over 1.8kg and contains almost 60 ounces of 18-carat gold. Comprising 44 individually shaped components, the Cup is a symbol of craftsmanship, excellence and national pride.

“There is something deeply meaningful about seeing Northern Territory gold brought to life in the form of the Melbourne Cup,” said Andrew Cochineas, CEO of Pallion. “From the mine to the finish line, the Cup is proudly Australian.”

From a period defined by exceptional European silversmithing, this coveted Austrian‑Hungarian service emerges renewed—its ivory accents and silver forms restored by W.J. Sanders with uncompromising care.

Our artisans carefully tended to the subtle marks of time—a dented lid, a delicate split, a distorted rim—through traditional handwork. Re‑soldering, reshaping, and a final radiant polish, each detail returned to its rightful splendour.
