Most of our Olive Eggers are multigen Marans-based and as such look exactly like pure Marans especially as chicks. This is a cuckoo olive egger, with telltale head dot signifying a cuckoo bird.

Chicken Mad olive eggers come in Cuckoo, Black/Blue Copper, Gold Cuckoo, Blue, Partridge, Black etc.

Their matings are usually selected by egg colour/size/speckling and as such we label the covering rooster on the egg.

A pea comb can be handy when identifying these but they can come with a straight comb. We recommend segregating them from Marans eggs during hatch and legbanding them to avoid confusion.

Available in all our Rainbow dozens and as a straight Olive dozen.

Blue Cuckoo and White

Marans are extremely robust and gregarious chicks, you’ll marvel at how it’s possible for a chick that big to fit inside its egg!

Marans come in many colours, most commonly Black and Blue Copper, Cuckoo, Wheaten, Birchen, White. Other varieties like Salmon and BTR are sparse.

Here, the white dot on top of the head signifies that it’s a cuckoo patterned bird. Blue doesn’t display cuckoo pattern as well as black but the head dot never lies.

Marans always have a straight comb and while many olive egger chicks look identical, they can have a pea comb instead. Always keep track of what egg your Marans hatched from.

We have a lot of inquiries about chick IDs - we’re going to do a series of reels to help you identify your bubs!

These two are dominant white and isabel. They’re a medium-sized chick and come in a range of colours, with Black Blue Lavender being most common. We love the white, Isabel and partridge versions with an occasional muted pile.

Their fluffy faces make them extra adorable!

The Brahmas are hard to miss - their amazing fluffy pants are a must. Both outer and middle toes should be fully feathered; the chicks are wider-set than normal but not quite as big as the Marans despite their eventual size. Yellow legs.

Partridge Brahma can be sexed on hatch, pullets having darker and more distinct stripes on the back, eyeliner and a V on the forehead while cockerels have a muted version of that colouration.

While the pullets grow their lacing, the cockerels will look rather unattractive as “teenagers” as their colours come in.

These can be found in our:

She’s moulted so well and looks so good, my better half told me to move down to she chicken shed and moult out 😂😂 I’d probably need to eat 50 raw eggs a day to keep up with her though 😂
