We've been a little quiet on social media lately, but the work on the bench has continued. Here is Matthew working on an engagement ring - the kind of careful, detailed work that happens long before the finished piece is ready to wear. Finished piece to be shared soon.

Small repairs can make a big difference to a much-loved ring.

This piece came into our workshop with a missing claw. We inspected the remaining claws, replaced the missing one, secured the stone, then gave the ring a clean and polish so it was ready to be worn again.

If your ring is catching on clothing, has a loose stone, or hasn’t had its claws checked in a while, it’s worth having it looked over before a small issue becomes a lost stone.

A small adjustment to this ring by adding “waves” to the band. This stops ring with large stones from spinning around on the finger. Also useful for mild arthritis- if you have a slightly large ring to get over the knuckles- this stops the ring from moving so much on the finger.

I’ve been working on this large brass kilt buckle, covered with Scottish thistles.
It was a bit of a challenge, I had to make a silicone rubber mould of the original, have that cast in wax, then have that wax cast in brass, and then for me to clean it up (shaping and polishing) and then attach the back buckle bits.
It’s a replica of a solid silver antique Scottish piece - which is too precious to be worn daily by its kilt wearing Scottish owner.
I’m now sending it away for silver plating, and then the centre pin will be attached.
