It all started when my mother bought me my first beautiful piece of jewellery. A dragon pendant, it was handmade and for a 15 year old it seemed to cost a fortune. Every year till I became a jewellery apprentice I received unique handmade jewellery that I still wear now. I never thought about how they where made and yet had lots of ideas of my own and thought one day I'd like to have a piece made
from my design -just for me..my very own. I was managing a surf shop in Sorrento Vic that was opposite an amazing jewellers called House of Kraftwerkz, ran by Paul Bott and his wife Di. It was the most divine space I had every been in, you could taste the metal in the air and it was such a slice of Sorrento's history being in one of the remaining original buildings in town. I talked to them about having a piece made knowing I would have to start saving, We got to know each other from them coming over to Quarra surf shop for snorkles ect and when the shop closed in 1995 they asked me to come and work in the gallery working with sales and gallery daily running. When I heard they were going to advertise for an apprentice I began to leave some designs around for them to see and I could not believe my luck when they offered me the apprenticeship! I started jewellery making in 1996. Paul taught me chain making and I'm so grateful because I love making chains (I hate soldering them, but It's the price to pay) I didn't complete my time with Paul as he sold the business to the very talented Neil Bradshaw. I bought every thing I needed and set up my own studio selling my work in a few galleries in Victoria but I truly felt I still had much to learn. I decided that I would return to studies and completed two year diploma of engineering and gold smithing in 2003 and returned to House of Kraftwerkz part time. I was poached from there by one of my best friends to work at her Glass gallery in Flinders and Sorrento. I haven't worked for a jeweller (except myself) since. What I love doing most of all is custom work doing those pieces just for you...for your very own.
