Petrified wood from Currimundi beach. Perhaps it was once an ancient podocarp or araucaria tree, like the Bunya ( Bonyi Bonyi), that blanketed the land 100s of millions of years ago. Before flowering plants came along. Regarded as a living fossil, they have been loved, cared for as family and distributed by first nations people as an amazing food source. Colonisation has not been their friend. But a remnant community survives so we can still walk among these ancient ones that shared the earth with dinosaurs. Like the monkey puzzle, they also exist in the unlikeliest places around the globe as a result of Victorian era plant collectors and botanical enthusiasts.

I had a lovely arvo with in gallery, west end chatting to customers and creative characters at the exhibition. We also sold a bunch of jewellery! But still plenty of gorgeous pieces left for the final day tomorrow open 8am to 4pm. Got to hang out at the all morning too.
