This reading excerpt, taken from ‘life’ reading 1500-3, was given in July 1938 for a 53-year-old female (School Teacher, Supervisor, Protestant). Mrs (1500) was not present for the reading.
The reading began with Edgar Cayce exclaiming: ‘Quite a record!’
The reading then explained how Mrs (1500)’s records were chosen for this reading, and the standards each soul is expected to apply:
‘In choosing the interpretations of the records to be given here, this is done with the hope and desire that the entity may indeed apply that which has been given of old, "Know Thyself."
And in the analysis of this, and the seeking to apply that which is good, know that these are chosen from a standard – an ideal.
Know then that an ideal, physical, mental and spiritual, must be a part of the experience of each, if there would be a gaining, a developing, a fulfilling of the purposes for which each soul enters a material experience.
For there is the constant meeting of self in the varied experiences, and we are the result of all we have been in respect TO that which is the ideal, the way, the truth and the light.
It is only in the application of these, that are the fruits of the spirit, that each soul may indeed come to know that purpose for which it enters a given experience.’
The reading then explained how Mrs (1500)’s astrological influences, from Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and Venus, had become urges to be worked with:
‘The entity, as each entity, comes under the astrological aspects. These are rather sojourns, and hence become rather those influences from which the entity may draw. Just as an individual may in a material experience under such and such an environ come to think and act or deal with conditions in that same relationship as those about the entity, for the entity comes to hold the same as the ideal way and manner. Or it takes on, as it were, the habits, the activities in relationships to same and to conditions in the way and manner in which the mind (the builder) is allowed to be controlled, or trained, or directed.
So in giving the astrological aspects, know that these are urges - and environs under which these become as experiences for manifestations. For knowledge is power, but knowledge misapplied, knowledge misused, becomes rather deteriorating and detrimental than a helpful experience.
Thus there should or must be the ideal, and not merely the idealistic attitude but a CONSISTENCY towards those things of the mental and spiritual aspects of every individual's experience of life.’
The reading then examined three prior lifetimes for Mrs (1500) - in the English Land (during the Crusades), in the Arabian or Persian Lands, and in the Egyptian land, with this observation about the English experience:
‘In the experience we find that the entity gained and lost. Yet we find abilities that arise in the present from those activities about the entity in that period, for the entity to combine or group individuals in the various assorted activities as related to the home, the state, as WELL as into those to influence people who become as the future generations.
All of these were a part of the entity's experience through that sojourn; and the abilities as a teacher, as a minister, as a director, become as a part of the entity's activities.
Yet from those experiences there arises many a questioning of those in authority, whether it be pertaining to things of a political faith, or the church as to its state, or estate, as well as in the home or in club or the like. Questions are ever about the entity as respecting those in authority.’
The reading then addressed Mrs (1500)’s present abilities: ‘Thus may the experience in the present be Used for not other than, "Peace be unto thee - my peace I leave with thee." THAT embrace. For peace, in body, in mind, in heart, is that which brings contentment; and the encouragement given, and the awareness that "My Spirit beareth witness with thee day by day."’
No questions were asked, even though some were submitted. Mrs (1500) was concerned about the lack of questions, and the discrepancy in her date of birth, so twelve days later Edgar Cayce gave reading 1500-4, to clarify her concerns and eleven questions were answered.
In a subsequent letter to Edgar Cayce, Mrs (1500) stated: "I cannot express my deep appreciation for your many courtesies. I am so sorry you were inconvenienced on my behalf. The answers to my inquiries are a great help and your advice will be followed implicitly.” (From Report of Reading 1500-4)
