Annette Piper Dip. Gem. Handcrafted Jewellery Quality handcrafted gemstone and pearl jewellery by gemmologist and designer, Annette Piper. See mo Contact Annette at [email protected].

With a love of gemstones going back to my childhood, I became a gemmologist and learned bench skills while working for an artisan jeweller in Sydney. Married to an ex-RAAF pilot / farmer (who still flies for fun), we live atop the Great Dividing Range near the little town of Coolah in central NSW where I have my studio, full of tray upon tray of beautiful natural gemstones and cultured pearls. As

a gemmologist I personally select all the gems and pearls for quality, cut and colour. I spend a lot of time sourcing different gems or different cuts and have many cut specially, so that you can truly have one of a kind jewellery. My vision is that every woman wearing my jewellery feels fantastic and can walk into a room and make it her own! I specialise in elegant designs with a timeless and classic feel as these pieces will become your go-to jewels and help you feel quietly confident. And there is the occasional eye-popping statement piece as well to help you stand out from the crowd

The broken ankle is well...still broken! lol. I have been cleared for starting to gradually put weight on it (within the boot) so in 6 weeks I am full weight bearing and can take the boot off. As I'm still very much bed-bound 98% of the time, I was unable to attend the International Jewellery Fair held last weekend in Sydney, and organised for Miss C to attend for me. The photos certainly make me wish I was there!

Here are a few pics for your enjoyment....

On the positive side I hope to manage short bursts to the studio each day to continue working through my to-do list of new creations so that there are lots of gemmie goodness for Tamworth Xmas Fair and Bush Christmas in Toowoomba, both in November.

Hello hello....I've been receiving some messages from long term clients asking where I have disappeared to.... and the answer is rather mixed!

In May I disappeared from Australia completely and was in China with Farmer Piper - our first holiday since 2019. We had our mind blown every single day - whether it was the size of the cities, the kilometres of rose lined highways in Beijing (all in full bloom), the fast trains, the food, the friendliness of the people, the stunning scenery, the massive infrastructure, the quiet of big cities full of people (so many EVs!) , the history, the farming, the farm machinery (yes we spent a couple of days looking at tractors in Helionjiang Province lol).... long story short, I can't wait to go back and see more!

We stopped on the way back in Malaysia for a few days as Farmer Piper in his Airforce days spent quite a bit of time there and wanted to show me the sights (but it was sooooo hot/humid which definitely affected my enjoyment).

June was full of designing and planning new jewels for spring/summer and the start of some creating which was very satisfying!

July started out okay but then, a split second stumble at the post office in town resulted in a dislocated, multi-fractured ankle! Ambulance ride, basic re-location of ankle, another ambulance ride to Dubbo to Emergency, another re-location, 5 days waiting in the surgical ward for the swelling to abate, surgery involving 3 pins and plates and it is now 2 weeks post-op which has been spent on bedrest. I now know I will be on a mix of rest and non-weight bearing for the next 4 weeks and will likely be restricted for a further 6 weeks whilst I gradually use it again.

So, what does this mean... well I hope to be back in the studio mid this month for a few hours most days as I continue creating. I will be unable to attend Merriwa Show unfortunately as I won't be healed enough to do everything that is needed at an event (let alone drive myself). But I am confident that my November events (Tamworth Xmas Fair and Bush Christmas in Toowoomba) will be business as usual

I'm still in a green phase...

These earrings are made with beautiful faceted pale green fluorite drops in an ogee shape, hanging from sterling silver branches.

Fluorite is said to promote calm, clarity and focus - something I think I need quite a lot of lately!

I feel like its time for statement jewels! Perhaps because of the slightly cooler weather?

This one of a kind pair are quite dramatic don't you think? Emerald-green malachite with exquisite banding (sourced from the Tucson gem shows) and white baroque pearls.

At 8.2cm long they command attention! Perfect for special occasions, gallery openings or anytime you choose.

Malachite has been treasured for centuries as a stone of transformation and protection whilst pearls symbolise wisdom and purity – a powerful combination.

After reading an industry article on how AI agents are beginning to make purchasing decisions on behalf of humans, it makes me wonder if the human voice is being lost.

I was updating some information on the website and saw the link to my old blog. Remember blogs!? Maybe they're now they're substacks!? Having a look, I can see that I drifted away from blogging - doing minimum posts and then not at all - which correlates to when I started to post on FB more.

FB became my alternate blog - a shorter, briefer version to match the habit we developed of scrolling more and reading less. Instagram encouraged even briefer posts being visual heavy. And if you were on Twitter there was a character limit - shorter again.

The blog, however, kind of summed up life pretty well - farm life, family, travel and jewellery. It was kind of balanced and reading back through the posts it reflected real life a little more, showed a little more humour and vulnerability.

I'm tempted to go back to blogging - for the cathartic experience perhaps - but its likely to largely remain unread!

Today's jewel - a pairing of blues - soft denim-blue fossil coral and K2 Jasper sterling silver earrings. A simple design, but the combination is eyecatching. K2 'Jasper' is an azurite/granite rock found at the base of the K2 Mountain in the Himalayas and fossilised coral shows its organic origin in its beautiful patterns. Both are mesmerising gems in their own right and the silver accents enhance the blue!

Approximately 4.2cm long, $105 plus postage and available on my website - or PM me for more information.

By the way, if you want to check out my old blog it's at : https://annettepiperjewellery.blogspot.com - you have to go back to 2012 to see the real me lol, after that I ended up just posting about celebrities and their jewels!

1 necklace - 2 looks! I love a versatile necklace and this one gives 2 bold looks. Half is large mid purple amethyst balls knotted onto purple silk and half is dark purple organic drops. Separating the two are semi baroque white pearls and sterling silver. This beauty slips over the head, but you can utilise the small disguised 's' clasps near the pearls if needed.

I have been working behind the scenes editing the photos I took when Miss M was home and trying to get some stock on the website. It's a slow process, particularly when other things happen on the farm and I'm needed there.

My friend who buys at Tucson for me didn't attend this year, so its rather fortunate I bought a lot over the last few years so I still have beautiful pairs to make into earrings. (You're not surprised are you!?) This pair of Lapis Lazuli came from last year's Tucson buy I believe - stunning quality

Many of you are interested in how I combine my jewellery business with life as a farmer's wife.... so this is a snapshot of the week that was!

Hot days, happy puppy and old dog, grapes on the vine, looking at a repair, 2 way radio on in case Farmer Piper needs me, working on the website, what is a parrot doing in the garage!?, 46 degrees in the shade, first attempt at making gimbap, a storm, finally some rain (it could have stayed longer)!

Its pretty representative of January!!

With the continuing rise in the prices of gold and silver I thought I'd have a chat about prices!

The way I work is that I don't increase prices on in-stock items. When I price, I take into account the amount I paid for the metal, gems and pearls - not replacement cost.

The prices of gems and pearls have also risen substantially over the last couple of years (but not skyrocketed like silver and gold continue to do daily).

Once again I work on the amount I paid for the gems - fortunately I have a pretty big stash so this keeps my prices a lot lower than if I was purchasing the gems now. I have a decent stash of pearls but there are some gaps so I have purchased some pearls over the last couple of years and the items made with those will reflect a higher price and of course the newer special gems from Tucson each year.

If I need to order in an item specifically for you (this particularly happens for repairs) it is going to be higher than it was say 2 years ago, as the price of materials has been constantly increasing.

Overall - you benefit from my hoarding tendencies lol ;)

Today's necklace comes from the stash :D

Rhodochrosite is the stunning pink gem and large roundish 'circle' pearls, all knotted onto pink silk with a sterling silver clasp. 53cm long. $285 + postage. PM me for more info!
