Do you use a knitting notebook?

I’ve been thinking about how helpful it can be to have one small place to gather the ideas that come up while knitting.

A colour combination you want to remember. A yarn you loved working with. A pattern that caught your eye. A little snippet of yarn taped to the page. A sweater construction that feels comfortable to wear.

Nothing too perfect or overly organised, just a record of the things you notice.

I like the idea of a notebook as a reference point rather than a strict plan. Somewhere to collect thoughts, possibilities, and small reminders for future projects.

I have a couple of notebooks I use. One is for design ideas, and the other is more of a colour reference book — almost like a scrapbook, with colour swatches pasted in and little samples of yarn attached to cards. It’s very handy when I’m thinking through colour ideas for future projects.

Do you keep a knitting notebook, or are your ideas scattered through notes, screenshots and saved posts?

After frogging, frustration, and plenty of persistence, the finished cardigan is such a striking piece. The deep Sanguis ribbed edging and button band give the cardigan a modern feel, while the softer contrast colours move beautifully across the body and sleeves in that gorgeous chevron pattern.

Handmade garments often hold more than yarn and stitches. They hold memories.

Memories of choosing a colour, finding the right pattern and casting on. They remind us of what was happening while we were making them, a quiet evening, a holiday, or a particular season in life.

This week on the Journal, we’re reflecting on the stories stitched into the clothes we make and the way our favourite handmade pieces become part of everyday life.

Do you have a handmade garment that carries a special memory for you?

Our first batch of ACM for the season has just been added to the shop.

Soft, airy and gently textured, ACM is one of those yarns that feels very special on the needles. A beautiful blend of baby alpaca, Pima cotton and merino, it has a lovely drape with enough warmth for cooler days, while still feeling light and breathable.

It’s the kind of yarn we love for pieces that become part of everyday life — lightweight sweaters, soft shawls, simple tees and easy layers you reach for again and again.

We’ve added a fresh collection of colours to the shop, ready for your next cast-on.

Finished and already being worn.

This is the Serpentine Pavilion Shawl by , the first pattern from Shawl Society Season 6, knitted in our ACM base in Fluro Peach.

It was such a relaxing project, and I really enjoyed knitting the cable section. With all the cold, rainy weather we’ve had lately, it has gone straight into high rotation.

Soft, warm, light, and very cosy.

We have kits available in the shop if you’d like to make one too. The next Shawl Society release is tomorrow, can’t wait!

We always love seeing what you’re making with our yarns, and we were absolutely delighted when this beautiful shawl popped up in our feed.

paired our Daintree yarn in Apple Blossom with the Saranac Shawl by Kirsten Kapur, and it feels like such a perfect match.

The beautiful lace border is such a showstopping feature. The tonal colour works so beautifully with this design, and the soft, silky drape of Daintree makes the whole piece look so elegant.

The Landscape Advent has been such a joy to put together.

From planning the colour story, to choosing the little extras, to designing the wrap pattern that will bring the minis together into one finished piece, it has felt like such a special project from the start.

The colours are already looking so lovely in the studio. They’ll remain a surprise until December, but seeing the palette begin to take shape has made us even more excited to send these out into the world.

Pre-orders are open now on our website. Advent boxes will ship in early November, ready to begin opening from December 1.

Will you be joining us for The Landscape Advent?

This week’s Journal post is about choosing colours you’ll love to wear, with a few thoughts on finding the shades that feel most like you.

You can read it now on the Journal, which I’ve linked in our stories.

What’s one colour you keep coming back to? For me, it’s green 💚

The Landscape Advent is now open for pre-order.

Inspired by the colours and atmosphere of coastal, rainforest, desert and urban landscapes, our advent is a mystery colour story designed to unfold slowly from one mini skein to the next.

Dyed on our lovely Allure base, it brings together 24 mini skeins, a hand-dyed project bag, a shawl pattern designed by us especially for the minis, and a set of Cocoknits stitch markers.

The colours will remain a surprise until December, ready to be opened one mini skein at a time.

Advent boxes will ship in early November, ready to begin opening from December 1.

Pre-orders are now open on our website — we can’t wait to share this with you.

Me Made May has us thinking about the handmade pieces we reach for again and again.

The cosy layers, the favourite colours, the textures we love to wear, and the projects that slowly become part of everyday life.

A handmade wardrobe doesn’t need to be perfect or complete. It can simply be a collection of pieces that feel good, hold memories, and make getting dressed a little more personal.

What handmade piece do you wear most often?

A few favourites shown here: Soldotna Crop by Caitlin Hunter, Lorette by Nadia Crétin-Léchenne and Isla Shawl by Biches & Bûches.
