For a very special girl who touched my ❤️
Dear friends,
Evie was diagnosed with DIPG on Valentine's Day 2023, an extremely aggressive, inoperable and incurable brain cancer.
The Whipps family have been very fortunate to have received so much support, financial and otherwise, from their broader community during the initial diagnosis period.
The initial GoFundMe allowed Evie’s Dad Josh to stay home with her while she underwent numerous tests, worsening symptoms such as vision loss in her left eye, difficulties with walking that had her confined to a wheelchair, struggles with speech and more. Evie underwent 6 weeks of daily radiation therapy with the hope that it would shrink the tumour and reduce her symptoms. Something which would hopefully give her more time.
During this months-long time period the family of 5 had no living security, moving from hotel to hotel, and eventually to an insanely expensive AirBnB (the cheapest and only one available to them).
The Whipps family were also able to take Evie on a once in a lifetime, memory making trip over East. Evie got to go to theme parks, feed meerkats and bears, and experience many more extraordinary adventures. The joy that Evie felt during her trip was invaluable.
The Whipps Family are so grateful for that support during these initial stages but are now facing a whole new phase in her journey.
The next phase involves many serious tests and procedures, culminating in a brain biopsy with many possible side effects. This biopsy will potentially qualify her for the clinical trial that will hopefully prolong her life, but the outcome is still not known.
While some medical costs are covered, thousands more will be on Evie’s Mum and Dad, including the expectation from the medical staff that they be located close to the hospital in Perth for the first few months of the trial, or possibly longer, depending on how she responds to the trial medication.
The options that are sometimes given to families for free accommodation are not open to them due to there being no availability. With the normal day to day cost of living, this has exponentially magnified their expenses for accommodation, food, heating, petrol, and other basic needs.

With the average life expectancy of a DIPG diagnosis being 9 months, these next few months of staying together are invaluable to the Whipps Family.
