Dosing strontium in a marine aquarium can offer several benefits, particularly related to the health and growth of calcifying organisms. Here are the primary benefits:

Supports Skeletal and Shell Growth - Strontium is a chemical analog of calcium and can be incorporated into the calcium carbonate skeletons of corals, sponges, and other calcifying invertebrates, promoting healthy growth.

Enhances Coral Calcification - Adequate strontium levels can improve the rate and quality of skeletal formation in stony corals and other calcifiers.

Maintains Natural Mineral Balance - Strontium is naturally found in seawater at consistent levels. Supplementing helps replicate natural conditions, promoting healthier reef systems.

Potential for Improved Coral Coloration - Some reef keepers report more vibrant colors and better overall appearance when strontium levels are maintained within optimal ranges.

Important Considerations:

Proper Dosage is Critical - Excessive strontium can lead to imbalances and negatively impact other minerals like calcium and magnesium.

Regular Testing - Monitoring strontium levels ensures proper dosing and prevents deficiencies or excesses.

Part of a Balanced Trace Element Regimen - Strontium should be dosed as part of a comprehensive trace element management system, not in isolation.

When carefully managed, strontium supplementation can enhance the growth, skeletal strength, and coloration of calcifying organisms in a marine aquarium. Balanced dosing aligned with natural seawater levels is key to avoiding negative effects.

Coral Essentials, Coral Power Strontium is a concentrated solution of strontium (50,000 ppm). Strontium in natural sea water is in the order of 8-10ppm. Keeping strontium at this level is advisable and not outside the range of 5-15ppm.

10/05/2026

Our Coral Essentials, Coral Power Reef KI3 is a concentrated blend of Potassium Iodide and Iodine (0.5%) for marine aquariums. It is essential for healthy growth of both soft and hard coral, enhanced blue and violet colouration in corals, as well as the promotion of healthy macroalgae growth. Iodine is utilized by corals for the synthesis of pigments, which allow them to adapt to varying light conditions and provide their tissue with protection from UV radiation. To ensure healthy coral, invertebrates and macroalgae, maintain a dosing plan as detailed below.

Benefits of dosing Reef KI3 (aqueous iodine/iodide mix, commonly Lugol's Solution) in a marine aquarium.

Replenishes iodine/iodide - Lugol’s supplies both iodide and molecular iodine, restoring halide levels depleted by ozonation, peroxide treatments, or prolonged use of RO/DI water without remineralization.

Supports coral and invertebrate health - Iodine is used by corals, soft corals, anemones, sponges and some mollusks for metabolic processes, pigmentation, tissue maintenance and wound repair; regular low dosing helps maintain these functions.

Enhances coloration and pigmentation - Many reefers report improved or more stable coloration in soft corals, anemones and some LPS/SPS when iodine levels are kept near natural seawater concentrations.

Aids molting and crustacean health - Iodine supports normal molting and physiological function in crustaceans (shrimp, crabs), reducing molting problems when levels are adequate.

Supports antimicrobial/immune chemistry - Iodine participates in halogen-based biochemical defenses (iodoperoxidase systems) used by many invertebrates for antimicrobial activity and wound protection.

Reef KI3 can also be used as a coral dipping solution, refer below.

Available in 50ml.

Dosage rate: We recommend starting off dosing 1 drop/day for each 100L of tank water. Do not dose higher than 2 drops/day for each 100L of water in a heavily stocked system.

Dipping Solution: Dilute by using 2 ml in each 1L of salt water.

Coral Essentials, Coral Power Phosphate Up is a balanced, inorganic phosphorous source (1,000 ppm). The phosphate based nutrient source, along with naturally occurring bacteria, provide the right environment to ensure the uptake of excess dissolved organics. In ULNS (Ultra Low Nutrient Systems) aquariums corals can have poor colouration and unhealthy if they are starved of available phosphate.

Benefits of dosing phosphate (PO4³–) in a marine aquarium.

Prevents nutrient starvation - Very low or zero phosphate can limit growth of zooxanthellae and macroalgae, reducing coral growth, tissue repair and coloration. A small background PO4 supports normal biological processes.

Supports primary production and refugia - Phosphate is an essential nutrient for macroalgae, phytoplankton and microbes in refugia; adequate PO4 promotes refugium productivity and nutrient export.

Balances nutrient ratios - Maintaining some phosphate (with nitrate) helps keep nitrogen:phosphorus ratios in a range that discourages opportunistic uptake of trace elements by nuisance algae and supports balanced coral symbiont nutrition.

Reduces risk of sudden nutrient swings - Maintaining a low, stable phosphate level avoids big fluctuations that stress livestock or trigger nuisance blooms when conditions change.

Aids normal growth and metabolic processes - Phosphate is vital for ATP, nucleic acids and cellular metabolism across all organisms — tiny amounts are required for tissue growth and repair.

Coral Essentials guidance and typical reef targets. Mmany reefkeepers aim for ~0.02–0.10 ppm PO4. SPS-heavy systems often target lower (0.01–0.03 ppm) while mixed reefs and systems prioritizing macroalgae/refugium growth may tolerate higher (0.05–0.10 ppm).

Available in 100ml.

Manual Dosing - We recommend starting off dosing 1 drop (0.05ml)/day for each 100L (26 gals) of tank water.

Advanced Dosing - For the advanced aquarist 1ml will raise the phosphate levels by 0.01ppm (mg/L) for each 100L (26 gals) of tank water.

08/05/2026

Coral Essentials, Coral Power Nitrate Up is a concentrated, inorganic nitrogen source (50,000 ppm). In bacteria driven systems it provides an essential nutrient source to assist in biologically balancing marine aquarium systems.

Benefits of dosing nitrate (NO3–) in a marine aquarium.

Prevents complete nutrient starvation - Very low/zero nitrate can starve zooxanthellae and macroalgae, reducing coral growth and coloration; small background NO3 supports normal primary production.

Supports coral and zooxanthellae physiology - Moderate nitrate levels provide nitrogen for symbiotic algae and host tissues—helpful for protein synthesis, growth, and recovery after stress.

Stabilizes algal nutrient balance - Adequate nitrate (relative to phosphate) can reduce opportunistic uptake of other micronutrients by nuisance algae and help prevent them from scrounging limiting resources that corals need.

Improves coral pigmentation and tissue health (in some cases) - Low but non-zero nitrate often correlates with better color and polyp extension versus absolute zero; many reef keepers target small amounts to optimize appearance and growth.

Helps refugium/refuge productivity - Nitrate supports macroalgae and phytoplankton growth in refugia/refugiums used for nutrient export and food production.

Reduces stress from rapid nutrient shifts - Maintaining a stable, modest nitrate concentration avoids large swings that can stress livestock and encourage nuisance blooms when suddenly fed or dosed.

Coral Essentials guidance and typical reef targets: ~1-5 ppm NO3 (many SPS-focused systems aim 0.5–3 ppm; mixed reefs often 1–5 ppm). Soft‑coral and macroalgae-heavy systems tolerate higher.

Available in 100ml.

Manual Dosing - Only for ULNS systems we recommend starting off dosing 1 drop (0.05ml)/day for each 100L (26 gals) of tank water.

Advanced Dosing - For the advanced aquarist 1ml will raise the nitrate levels by 0.5ppm (mg/L) for each 100L (26 gals) of tank water.

Our Coral Essentials, Coral Power Potassium is a concentrated solution of Potassium Chloride, 100,000ppm for marine aquariums. It is essential for healthy growth of both soft and hard coral, enhanced red and pink colouration in corals, as well as promoting coral exoskeleton growth. Potassium is one of the fundamental elements for marine tanks. Potassium is an important major ion that supports cellular function, coral health/pigmentation, and macroalgae growth. The concentration should be between 380 and 450 mg/l (ppm). Potassium is used in both coral skeleton formation and cellular processes. It is also used by zooxanthellae as it is directly involved in the biosynthesis of glucose through photosynthesis. To ensure healthy coral maintain a dosing plan as detailed below.

Additional benefits of dosing potassium (K+) in a marine aquarium.

Maintains ionic balance and osmotic health - Potassium is a major intracellular cation for animals and algae; maintaining natural seawater levels supports normal cell function, nerve/muscle activity, and osmoregulation in fish and invertebrates.

Supports coral physiology and coloration - Adequate potassium is linked to healthy coral metabolism and pigmentation in some species (especially soft corals and certain SPS/ LPS), helping maintain color and polyp extension.

Aids macroalgae growth in refugia - Potassium is a macronutrient for macroalgae and seagrasses; low K can limit growth in refugia used for nutrient export.

Helps prevent nutrient uptake imbalances - Maintaining proper K reduces the risk that organisms will be stressed by imbalanced major-ion chemistry when other salts or RO/DI water alter ion ratios.

Available in 50ml.

Dosage rate: We recommend starting off dosing 1 drop/day for each 100L of tank water. Do not dose higher than 2 drops/day for each 100L of water in a heavily stocked system Manual Dosing Tables.

For the advanced aquarist 0.1ml (2 drops) will raise the potassium levels by 0.1 ppm (mg/L) for each 100L of tank water.

Benefits of dosing nickel (Ni) in a marine aquarium

Essential trace micronutrient for microbes and algae - Ni is a cofactor for a few enzymes (e.g., some ureases, hydrogenases) used by bacteria and certain algae; small amounts can support microbial nitrogen cycling and microalgal metabolism in refugia or planktonic communities.

May aid refugium and phytoplankton productivity - If Ni is limiting, adding trace amounts can improve growth of macroalgae or cultured phytoplankton used for nutrient export and as live feed.

Indirect support for overall tank biology - Healthier microbial communities and primary producers can improve nutrient processing and contribute to a more stable, productive system that benefits corals and filter feeders indirectly.

Benefits of dosing molybdenum (Mo) in a marine aquarium.

Essential micronutrient for microbes and algae - Mo is a cofactor in enzymes (e.g., nitrate reductase, nitrogenase) used by bacteria, phytoplankton, and macroalgae for nitrogen metabolism. Adequate Mo can support efficient nitrate assimilation and healthy primary production in refugia and planktonic communities.

Supports refugium and macroalgae productivity - In systems using macroalgae or phytoplankton for nutrient export, tiny additions of Mo may relieve a limiting micronutrient and improve growth, helping reduce nitrate and phosphate.

Indirect benefits to overall ecosystem health - By promoting robust microbial and algal activity, Mo can help maintain a stable, productive base of the food web that indirectly benefits corals and filter feeders.

Benefits of dosing Lithium in a marine aquarium.

May influence calcification - Laboratory studies on some calcifying organisms show lithium can substitute into carbonate lattices or affect crystal morphology; hobbyists report that small Li additions sometimes correlate with improved coral skeletal density or growth.

Possible effects on algal physiology - Lithium can alter some cellular signaling pathways in microbes and algae in lab settings; practical, beneficial impacts in an aquarium (e.g., on refugium macroalgae) are anecdotal at best.

Trace presence mimics natural seawater - Natural seawater contains trace Li. Maintaining a natural trace-element profile may be preferable to complete absence.
