In 2009 Dean relocated to Queensland with his family for a change in lifestyle, working for a manufacturing jewellers in the outskirts of Brisbane. In 2015 Dean won the setting category of the Young Jewellers Group Design and Manufacturing Championships held at the Sydney International Jewellery Fair.
