Guess who can’t find the key? 😂

I love this little lock on our grain shed. It’s just a cosy design. It’s not saying “I’m tough, you can’t break me! Come on, I dare you!” It’s saying, “I’m protecting this shed.” Our cars, our tools, our locks are increasingly combative, even angry. I do wonder if that’s one of the problems in our world. Our design portfolio needs to nurture us, not threaten us.

I’m working on a special commission and have been making teeny tiny gem-huggers 💎😂 Okay, bezels if you must.

And the special commission? Is for me! Every now and then it’s good to just play and make something for oneself. There’s no pressure, no expectation, just a chance to hone some skills and see what happens. And I picked some of my favourite stones to tinker with.

We found this very old plough in a paddock. It’s probably been on the farm over a hundred years. But would you look at how gorgeous the design on the wheel is? That star shape to form the spokes?

I’m always inspired by the thought put into good design on old tools. These were everyday things, utilitarian, yet they are designed and fabricated with care.
