‘More than a stick’
An exploration into the beauty of nature as wearable art by Jacqui Renton Jewellery

"Before they were brooches and neck-pieces they were a box of driftwood, hollow knots and twisted roots. When I looked at this collection I knew they were 'more than a stick'."

You are invited to the opening night of Jacqui Renton's exhibition ✨

'More Than A Stick' brings together a collection of jewellery, neck-pieces and brooches, featuring the beauty of driftwood.

Shaped by time and tide, this collection ranges from smooth and sun bleached to hollow and deeply textured. These natural qualities are paired with both traditional and unexpected materials; pearls, silver, gold leaf, acrylic ink, and steel cable...

Each piece embraces the individuality of the wood and the traces of its former life. What might first appear as a simple stick or a twisted root becomes something more when placed centre stage. Each piece becomes a sculptural piece of wearable art, co-created with nature.

Salamanca Arts Centre
Studio Gallery
Opening night Thursday 3rd September 5pm - 7pm

Exhibition runs from 03/09/2026 - 24/09/2026 and is open daily 10am - 5pm.

Introducing - Kasey of Nunatak Silver .nunatak._

"Nunatak is a handmade silver jewellery brand born in one of the most remote and extreme environments on Earth - Antarctica. I founded Nunatak in 2025 after my fourth season on the ice as a creative outlet to keep my hands and mind busy during the long, cold polar winter.

What started with a few quiet hours at the workbench in a research station has grown into a deeply personal craft, shaped by experience, resilience, and a love for untamed places.

I began making silver jewellery in 2021, creating pieces both at the bottom of the world and back home in Tasmania, Australia, where the wilderness is just as inspiring. As an environmental engineer, my work is grounded in a respect for natures forms, materials, and stories. Each design is handcrafted with intention. My pieces are simple, strong, and made to last - just like the adventurers who wear them."

Currently on show in the gallery is the work of Rengin Guner ✨

"I believe that the jewellery medium is a combination of art and engineering, I make wearable art - to achieve that you have to concentrate on the mechanisms, like how to display that art on body, so brooch backs, earring hooks, bracelet clasps are imperative parts of the design.
The quality of the product is essential for me, only well-executed objects can be beautiful. I try to create geometric poetry, a piece to be passed down through generations". - Rengin Guner

Having spent over 25 years living by the sea, Megan Dickens finds it a boundless source of inspiration for design - providing elements of pattern, texture, colour, mood and material: but the rationale for her work is far more about the process.
The design and fabrication of all pieces are in fact all journeys of discovery which end with a sense of achievement and anticipation about starting the next piece of work.

Megan Dickens
'My work has always been about moments of discoveries that are possible every time I sit at the bench. Ideas provide the need to create, to explore, and test, but so often transform on the bench as endless possibilities are presented. I am drawn to pattern, texture, colour, positive and negative space, perfect and imperfect, which are criteria that have driven what I enjoy to make the most. The juxtaposition of placing conflicting elements together.... harmony created.'
