Our Story
I am an artisan jeweller working from Byron Bay, Australia. My jewellery is always unique, handcrafted, one-of-a-kind pieces or part of a limited edition collection. I love white metals and my creative journey took me to centre my work around raw masculine jewellery. My pieces are a reflection on myself, my lifestyle and my life story, there is no single piece being created which has not my full heart, my inner rebel and strive for perfection concealed.
I was born in East Germany where I grew up in the poetic town of Weimar, before I moved to Poland and Ghana with my parents. Grown up behind the iron curtain in East Germany as a regime rebelling punk and later gothic in the 80ies and 90ies I experienced many obstacles in early life and could not follow my dream of becoming a nautical engineer. When the Berlin wall came down in 1989 I was right there and the new freedom offered all the opportunities I aspired for. I moved to the former West Germany, run my own bar in one of the best beach towns in Germany, lived later in South Africa, worked as a roadie for the biggest bands and festivals in Europe, surfed the waves of all the Canary Islands, studied Interior Design, build Solar plants in Africa and much more. I truly enjoyed being a vagabond until I met my now wife in London in 2006 and then moved to Melbourne for some time; before I then lived and started to work as jewellery designer and maker in Singapore. In 2015 I returned to my favourite place Byron Bay; and there was only one thing to do – make exceptional jewellery and indulge on everything the Northern Rivers have to offer – the waves, the beaches, the sun, the lush hills with their windy roads and the arts vibe!
I was teaching Metal Smithing at the Jewellery Design & Management International School in Singapore and studied with a Master Jeweller in Florence. I love to pass on the art of making beautiful and handcrafted jewellery and I am running several workshops throughout each year out of the Hammer & Hand Metal and Jewellery Collective https://www.facebook.com/HammerandHandByronBay/ in Byron Bay’s Arts and Industrial Estate. More than 100 people from around Australia have already participated in my workshops since launching in 2016 and unfolded their grand creativity with metal.
