Many of you may already own one, or perhaps several, of her creations.

This woman doesn’t really need an introduction, but for our newer followers, we’d love to introduce the creative force behind Gems & Jewels.

Suzy is our brand founder, creative director, and the heart of everything we do.

Her Gems & Jewels journey began many years ago in Central Square, Ballarat, before relocating in 2008 to our current home at Shop 1, 424 Sturt Street. But her passion for jewellery began long before that in her hometown of Warragul, where she first brought her vision to life through Suzy’s Fine Jewellery Store.

Suzy has always followed her own path. Her designs have never chased trends; instead, they are guided by intuition, craftsmanship and a deep understanding of timeless style.

Her pieces carry the unmistakable Gems & Jewels signature... thoughtful, refined and effortlessly distinctive. Jewellery designed to be worn, loved and treasured for generations.

When your client walks in just 5 days before their wedding needing a well-above-average-size wedding band… most people would say it can’t be done.
Us? We head to the workshop.

From raw metal to finished ring, this piece was made completely by hand in-house.

First, we melted the gold down in the crucible and poured it into the ingot. Then into the acid pot, through the rolling mill, annealed until glowing a dull red, back into the acid, and through the rolling mill all over again.

Once the metal was the perfect thickness, it was time to shape the bar into a ring using shaping pliers, carefully saw the join for a seamless fit, and solder it together.

Then came the rhythmic tap tap tap of the hide mallet… what we like to call the jeweller’s jingle bells ✨

From there, it was all about refining the inside for comfort, squaring the outside profile, and bringing the entire piece to life.

It’s moments like these that remind us… jewellery making is equal parts craftsmanship, pressure, passion, and a little bit of magic. G&Jx
