This piece carries a beautiful story — I’ve melted down my client’s jewellery, inherited from her mum, and I’m handcrafting it into a wave cuff. Still a work in progress, but it’s taking shape as a meaningful new design while holding onto all the sentiment of the original pieces.

Most people hear “beryl” and think emerald or aquamarine.

Heliodor is the golden-yellow member of the same mineral family. Its colour can move from pale sunlight to a richer gold as the light changes.

Golden Dawn began with a 1.69 ct oval heliodor. Wayne built the proportions of the setting around the individual stone, using four prongs to keep it open to the light and a diamond-set bail as a quiet point of contrast.

✨ What makes a pearl valuable?

When Wayne selects a pearl for a bespoke commission, he looks closely at the details that matter most:

🌟 Lustre – that mirror-like glow you can see yourself in.
✨ Surface – the smoother and cleaner, the higher the grade.
⚪ Shape – round pearls are rare, but unique shapes have their own beauty.
🎨 Colour – soft overtones, from pink to silver, can completely change the feel.

But in the end, the right pearl is always the one that speaks to you.

This bespoke ring was designed around just such a pearl — set in white gold with a sweep of diamonds, crafted in our Queensland studio.

The first bracelet I’ve designed quite like this.

The sapphires and zircons were found by the family themselves, so the design needed to honour the stones and their story.

I arranged them into small clusters of colour, separated by bars of gold. The challenge was making each linked section move naturally while keeping the bracelet flowing clean and straight.

There were plenty of decisions to solve at the bench, and many hours went into getting it right.

That’s the beauty of a one-of-a-kind piece. You work with the stones, follow what the design needs, and create something that belongs only to the person wearing it.

A Little Update

We’ve finally started unpacking and putting the new studio and workshop together! 🔨✨
There are still a few things to arrive and plenty of little details to finish, but it’s all starting to come together.

We’re hoping to be up and running by the end of the month. 🤞

How Custom Jewellery Becomes Truly Personal

My favourite projects are when a client brings their own idea or gemstone — and we combine it with one of my designs.

It’s a seamless process, and honestly, the most exciting part of what I do.

Sometimes I’ll sketch something and wonder, “Will anyone connect with this?” Then a client says, “I love that — but I want my own version.” That’s when it becomes perfect.

That’s the beauty of bespoke jewellery: your story woven into a design that’s uniquely yours.

💍 The Art of Original Jewellery Design

Most jewellers have hundreds of stock rings on display. So when they design something “custom,” it often ends up looking a lot like what’s already in the window.

For me, inspiration comes from my own workbench. Every design builds on the last — and the more I lean into my own style, the stronger and more original it becomes.

That’s what sets a true bespoke engagement ring apart: it isn’t borrowed from a catalogue, it’s shaped by the story we’re telling together.

This bracelet looks organic, but its structure is precise.

I selected and aligned each gemstone through the centre and along both outer edges so the finished piece would sit in balance.

The geometry almost disappears when you look at the completed bracelet. That is exactly the point.
