3 years of thinking. 3 weeks of building.

Most people look at a big stone and see the size. I look at it and see the balance.
It took me three years to find the right idea for this 17-carat Topaz. But once I had the concept, it only took three weeks to build.

In my new video, I show you the whole process. From recutting the stone to make it "alive," to soldering 16 claws by hand.

Private Commission | The art of bespoke jewellery is about more than creating something beautiful — it’s about designing a piece that could never belong to anyone else.

This one-of-a-kind ring features a striking Swiss Blue Topaz in rich yellow gold, accented with natural princess-cut diamonds in a clean channel setting. Every detail was carefully considered, from the proportions of the band to the double claw setting securing the centre stone.

No templates. No mass production. Just a custom piece designed and made specifically for its owner.

I've always believed jewellery should feel personal, bold, and timeless — something that reflects the wearer, not the trends.

Ruby Glow Ring

We love working with bold colours and creating pieces that truly stand out.

We don’t follow trends — instead, we focus on timeless design, individuality, and making pieces that feel personal and distinctive. Bold engagement rings featuring coloured gemstones and natural diamonds allow us to explore colour, contrast, and character in a way that feels completely unique.

Rubies paired with diamonds create a striking balance of rich colour and timeless brilliance.

Three engagement rings.
Three completely different personalities.

A great engagement ring should never feel generic.

Sometimes the right answer is timeless and understated.
Sometimes it is deeply personal, with details that carry meaning.
And sometimes it is bold, modern and impossible to ignore.

These three rings were all created by Wayne Doyle, but each one answers the brief in a completely different way:

— A classic solitaire
— A rose-engraved ring with a flush-set diamond, based on Wayne’s Astra style
— The Ruby Glow Gabi Ring, crafted in platinum with a 0.50ct natural marquise-cut diamond and 32 vivid natural rubies

That is the difference between choosing a ring from a cabinet and creating one with a Goldsmith.

If you are planning an engagement ring, start with the person — not the template.

Why I refuse to use moulds.

If you’re looking at an engagement ring, you need to ask one question: "Was this cast or was it forged?"

Most shops won't tell you the truth. They sell mass-produced rings where the claws are cast in a factory. I’ve spent years at my bench fixing those rings when the claws snap off, and the stone is lost. It’s not the right way to do things.

If you want a ring to last fifty years, you have to make the setting by hand.

I draw my own gold wire. I shape every claw by hand. It takes ten times longer, but it means the metal is solid, not porous. It means your stone is actually secure.

I’d rather do the work once and have it last forever than sell you a "cast" ring that’s built to fail.

The difference between a "Stock Ring" and a "Collection Piece."

I’ve spent decades at the bench. A lot of those years were spent doing trade work—fixing mass-produced rings that came from the big chain stores.

The biggest thing I noticed? Most people aren't buying a diamond. They’re buying a shop’s "inventory."

When you walk into a mall jeweller, those rings are there to clear a shelf. They were built in a factory to hit a specific price target. They aren't built for a lifetime; they’re built for a transaction.

My display case is different.

The pieces in my collection aren't "inventory." They are Standards. They are master-crafted examples of my specific style—like the Astra or the Rose Engraved series. Every one of them was forged by my hands, to my standard, right here at the bench.

Whether you choose a piece from my collection or we start a bespoke build from scratch, you aren't dealing with a middleman clearing stock. You’re dealing with the maker.

If you’re looking for a real legacy, stop looking for "stock." Find a master who puts their name on every piece in the case.

Why I tell my clients: "Don't trust the showroom lights."

I’ve spent decades at the bench, and I’ve seen the retail jewellery trade from the inside. There is a reason why chain stores use warm, theatrical lighting and fill their cases with the same grade of stone.

It’s called the Illusion of Consistency.

If every diamond in the room is a lower grade, your eyes stop looking for quality and start looking for a price tag. Without a high-quality reference point, you won't notice the visible inclusions or the off-colour tones until you walk out into the natural Australian sun.

I don't play that game.

When I select a stone for a client, I’m not looking for something that "looks fine" under a spotlight. I’m looking for the technical truth of the stone. I want you to compare it. I want you to see it in the light where you’ll actually be wearing it.

Don't buy the illusion. Buy the stone that actually holds its value when the lights go down.

In the world of bespoke jewellery, value isn't always found on a price tag.

Sometimes, the most important piece in a collection is a stone that carries a lifetime of family history, even if its monetary value is small.

As Wayne Doyle explains, that’s why we start every consultation with a question: Is this sentimental?

If a stone holds your story, then investing in a master-crafted setting makes perfect sense. But if there’s no sentimental connection, I’ll be the first to tell you if the investment doesn't add up.

We don't just build jewellery. We audit the legacy to make sure the work matches the meaning.

Zircon is one of those stones that changes when you see more of it.

Not just one colour. Not one look.

Champagne, honey, olive, teal, copper, rose, deep red — zircon has a range that gives you far more room to create something personal.

And when it sits beside sapphire, it works beautifully.

The colours do not compete.
They deepen each other.

That is what makes these combinations so interesting in custom jewellery.
Less expected. More individual. More alive.

For anyone with a private gemstone collection or anyone wanting something beyond the obvious, zircon is a stone worth looking at properly.

Bigger isn’t always better.

Most people look at a piece of rough opal and want the biggest stone possible. In the trade, we look for the Value.

As Wayne Doyle explains, size can be a trap. If you keep a stone large but it’s full of ironstone or "dead" spots, you’ve actually lowered the value of the asset.

Wayne made the call to cut this large chunk into two smaller stones. By sacrificing the weight, he found the "Ocean Tones"—the vibrant greens and blues that make a stone remarkable.

We don't cut for the scale. We cut for the story.

Most people have a "treasure chest" they never wear.

Old rings, broken chains, and missing earrings. It’s just sitting in a drawer gathering dust.
You might have $5,000 or even $10,000 worth of gold just sitting there. It makes no sense to leave it hidden.

As Wayne explains, a Bangle Remodel is the best way to get that gold back out into the world. Starting from $800 (average $1,100), we melt down your old pieces and forge them into a solid gold bangle.

You keep the sentimental value. You keep the gold. But now, you actually get to wear it.
