Iโ€™ve been cutting new Rhodolite and Malaya Garnets for all the lovers of rich red and blush pink tones ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

If youโ€™ve never heard of Malaya Garnets before, its the name given to mixed species garnets (usually pyrope, spessartite and almandine) that range in colour from reddish-orange, pinkish-orange, and these blush and pastel pinks. These garnets dont quite fit the colour mould of the three named garnet varieties above and so were given the Swahili name โ€˜Malayaโ€™ meaning outcast.

If fitting in meant we couldnโ€™t adore these beautiful โ€˜outcastโ€™ colours then I wouldnโ€™t want to anyway ๐Ÿ’•

Sourcing unique and rare gems is something that we take pride in, but gems like these are almost impossible to replace ๐Ÿฅต Sri Lanka is known for producing some of the worlds most beautiful bi colour material, but finding gems with clean and interesting colour zoning like this is getting harder and harder.

We can always source more sapphires, and more bi colours, but finding the perfect balance of colour, shape and personality takes months or years of searching for that perfect crystal.

Which sapphire catches your eye the most? ๐Ÿ˜

I'm always a fan of working with natural crystal shapes, and sapphires from Montana, USA often have hexagonal or barrel shaped crystals making them suitable for plenty of funs shapes. This material is also unheated, and after cutting displays that fine silky zoning following the hexagonal crystal shape, which is a fun and nerdy reminder to its crystallography ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ˜‰

This unique bi-colour sapphire will definitely take your breath away ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคฏ the gorgeous blue and lilac colour zoning in this gem reflect around in this gem due to the elongated pear cut giving it the perfect ink-dipped look. There will never be another gem quite like this one, its truly one of a kind and a beautiful example of a natural Sri Lankan sapphire ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’•

We've been busy cutting and photographing new gems lately, and if you like unique or unusual gems then you'll love what we've recently added to the website! ๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿ˜

Most of these aren't gems we can replace in hurry, and that's exactly the kind of gems we like to source and offer. Each stone has its own personality and story to tell, just like the finished piece of jewellery these gems are destined for.

Some of our favourites here include mint grossular garnet, grey and lilac spinels, bi colour sapphires, pink garnets and more!

To view these and more head to the website or send us a DM if you want quick details on any of these in this carousel ๐Ÿฅฐ

These Nigerian emeralds step away from the traditional deep green and into something lighter, fresher, and quietly luminous for those born in May.

The pastel colours bring a more delicate energy to emerald. Clean, contemporary, and easy to design around, especially for clients who want colour without the heaviness.

For jewellers, this kind of material opens up a different design direction. It leans into minimal, modern pieces, pairs effortlessly with white metals, and offers a birthstone option that feels less traditional.

Same birthstone. Completely different mood.
