I’ve thrown my hat in … errr, ring … and applied to compete in the Battle of the Rings 2026! So excited and holding my breath. Only 32 rings will be accepted. Will this be one of them?!

Formidable walls of Tyranny and Greed have risen up and cast their dark shadow across our 250 year old democracy. They leer at our values of truth, justice, community, due process, equality and love. Can We The People keep our Constitutional promise? I believe we can. When we stand and waive that flag, we can s***f out those flames of Tyranny and Greed … together.

I wrote this haiku last March, having no idea things could get as bad as they are now. Our country, our communities, the people … we are hurting. The cruelty, and rhetoric, and the violence are all so needless and reprehensible. This is not us.

Mr. Rogers said to look for the helpers. I’d like to build on that a bit.

Let’s BE the helpers.

These two characters - Cinder (the raven) and Botch (robot) - are ever so s l o w l y coming together. I lost track of how many iterations each has gone through at this point. Ironic how the initial designs run into roadblock after roadblock, requiring reassessment, redesign, remaking … and ultimately the solutions were so simple all along. There is probably a life lesson in there somewhere.

The banner at the top of my page here says “metaphors of hope, peace, joy and resilience.”
Ooooof. I have been s t u g G l i n g with that recently.
But as I tried to make myself go to bed a tad early last night, a verse popped into my head.
Maybe it’s enough to prime the pump and make me move forward. Maybe it’s the first stanza. Or maybe … maybe it’s enough just as it is.
