I don’t often share before/after transformations on jewelry, but this one felt special.

A few months ago, I had an intern who brought in her mom’s ring, set with a small aquamarine. She wears it every day, and over the years the stone had become completely scratched, the gold too.

I’m lucky to share my workspace with a very talented jeweler and together we were able to restore both the aquamarine and the ring. The difference is mind-blowing.

It’s been a while since I cut something like this. Light pink spinel, shaped around the original rough into a subtle kite. Soft color, strong presence.

Since moving to France 3 years ago, I’ve mostly been cutting classic shapes, the jewelry market here leans that way. Curious though… would you like to see more modern / fancy cuts, or do you prefer the classics?

I fell in love with this sapphire the moment I saw it. But like many stones, once you really sit with it, you start to notice the little things; slightly off proportions, polishing lines, and abraded facets

Nothing drastic, just a careful rework to bring everything back into harmony and take it from “good” to “great.”

I was wondering, because I do, do you call milky stones “opalescent”?

This beautiful pink, opalescent sapphire is from Sri Lanka, completely unheated, and naturally this color straight from the earth. After a couple of recuts, it’s now ready to become part of a stunning piece of jewelry 💎. Available on Magusgems.com

‼️ Gemstone makeover 💇🏻 This beautiful garnet had such a vibrant color, but the center was completely dead due to a massive window. The surface was abraded and the polish mediocre, not what you want in a brand-new piece of jewelry.

I reduced the outline to recover better proportions and close the window. I also redesigned the pavilion into a brilliant cut to boost light return and intensify that fiery color.

What do you think of the recut?
