Why buy estate jewelry? Exceptional value + truly one-of-a-kind pieces. Here’s what I look for when sourcing ↓

When I’m evaluating an estate piece for a client, I’m looking at what you’re actually getting for your investment—and where we can be flexible with the specs to maximize it.

This five-stone ring is a perfect example. The emerald-cut center diamond faces up beautifully white, has exceptional visual spread for its carat weight and great proportions without being overly shallow.

With step-cut diamonds, color can present very differently from stone to stone. It’s why I always recommend seeing diamonds in person and keeping an open mind about what’s written on paper.

The setting is just as special: an emerald-cut center flanked by baguettes and tapered baguettes, creating a beautifully graduated five-stone composition with incredible finger coverage.

It has the architectural, old-world feel we love at , while still feeling incredibly modern.

The right estate piece gives you something distinctive, beautifully made and often exceptional value for what you’re getting.

I was against lab-grown diamonds for a long time… but I’ve become a recent convert. Here’s how I think about it now. 👇🏼

This post is specifically for anyone building a jewelry box of foundational diamond pieces.

✨ Style #1: Hexagon Diamond Drop Huggies — Natural. Drop huggies are a forever staple, but what makes this pair special are the one-of-a-kind hexagon diamonds. Specialty cuts like these are rare to source, making them worth investing in.

✨ Style #2: Diagonal Pear Diamond Pendant — Natural. Every jewelry box deserves a solitaire pendant. The diagonal setting gives it a modern feel, but it’s still timeless enough to wear for decades.

✨ Style #3: La Vie en Rose Stackable Band — Natural. This design is primarily gold with smaller accent diamonds, so the price difference between natural and lab isn’t dramatic. I’d rather invest in natural here and save choosing lab for pieces where the savings are much greater.

✨ Style #4: Petite Diamond Infinity Knot Ring — Lab. This is a more trend-forward piece with a larger center stone. Choosing lab let me get the look I wanted while saving my natural diamond budget for my forever staples.

There isn’t a right or wrong answer, just different priorities. My philosophy is simple: buy natural when rarity or longevity is part of what makes a piece special, and choose lab when it lets you maximize your budget without sacrificing great design.
