Emma Villedrouin and her family moved abroad for a long term assignment- first in Brazil in 2013 and then Tunisia in 2017. In the midst of the Covid pandemic they moved in august 2021 to Vietnam. The impact of this slow motion world tour on her work is clear. The colors and shapes have become more exuberant and sometimes edgy. es, felt a lot like “home” to her. Tunisia is fascinating as well. It sits at the crossroads of civilizations and has been impacted by successive conquests: Roman and Byzantine ruins abound, remains of a distant early Christian past and the Muslim present coexist. Emma sees true beauty in pieces that are at times asymmetrical and with a degree of roughness which comes from the hand building process. Her process is artisanal and the result is an aesthetic she qualifies as “Luxury Bohemian.”
