For the sapphire lover here is a ladies ring featuring a gem quality 2.74, blue colored Ceylon Sapphire. This magnificent oval shaped stone is approximately 9mm in length and 7mm in width. Its color is of the classical Ceylon shade of full blue saturation with no gray or green side-tone hues to detract from its natural beauty. This gem, of course, is eye clean. Surrounding this center set gem are fourteen round brilliant cut melee diamonds with a total weight of .61 carats. These diamonds are graded G in color and SI in clarity. Since ancient times rubies have been associated with the sun and after this last, late winter nor’easter snow storm here in New England we felt that anything related to the sun might be a warm and welcoming relief from the cold.

In virtually every culture rubies are highly desired for their brilliance, vibrant and intense red color. The most prized colors for the ruby range from medium-red to dark-red with a hint of a slight bluish hue. The most desired ruby color is called pigeon blood red, and is that classical deep red with that very minimal hint of blue. In larger sizes a fine ruby can equal or surpass a comparable sized diamond in value.

Presented here is a glowing brilliant, high quality genuine ruby weighing 1.69 carats. This pigeon blood red gem is a typical example of the stones mined in Burma (now Myanmar); it is well cut and proportioned, and inclusion free to the un-magnified eye.

This ruby is accented with four round brilliant cut diamonds weighing .34 carats in total. The diamonds are G to H in color and SI in clarity. The ring itself is constructed in 14-karat, rhodium plated white gold.

Yellow diamonds are one of nature’s rarities and as such command premium market prices. Natural yellow diamonds get their color from nitrogen molecules which were captured in these stone during their crystallization process and were then exposed to natural radiation from nearby rocks.
Most nitrogen rich diamonds are not yellow, but if those typically somewhat off colored gems are treated in a linear accelerator they can be made yellow. These treated yellow diamonds are available at a fraction of the cost of a natural yellow.
