Happy Earth Day from the shores of Lake E(e)rie 💚 Throwback to this macabre jelly cake inspired by the noxious algal bloom that threatens our lives every summer. For those of you who aren’t local - our nearest Great Lake supplies drinking water to Toledo and many surrounding municipalities, and about a decade ago a particularly severe bloom caused the entire city’s water to be unsafe for a full weekend. Unlike other contaminants, the algae’s microsystin toxin does not go away after boiling! It was a very scary and tense weekend, and idk about the rest of the city but I’m still on edge every summer anticipating a repeat 🥴
