These orange stone earrings started as plain white polymer clay and a slightly chaotic drizzle of color. 🧡

I chopped the clay into tiny pieces, mixed the shades together, added metallic details and compressed everything into one very satisfying faux stone slab. Once sliced, the warm orange, golden yellow and gold leaf create a natural stone effect, with no two pairs turning out exactly alike.

A little messy in the middle, but absolutely worth the final reveal. These handmade statement earrings feel perfect for fall, but I would absolutely wear this warm, earthy color palette all year.

One of the first things I planned for The Dappled Wood, before I had even made many earrings, was how I wanted opening an order to feel.

I knew I wanted my handmade jewelry packaging to be as plastic-free as I could reasonably make it, while still creating a branded unboxing experience that felt special. The handwritten note, crinkle paper in our colors, green floral tape and Happy Mail sticker were all chosen to make receiving your handmade polymer clay earrings feel like a little celebration.

Four years later, the experience has stayed largely the same. I’ve created a few practical variations for different order sizes, especially for our extra-large Sabine flower earrings, and I reuse clean packing materials from supply orders whenever I can instead of immediately throwing them away.

But the heart of it hasn’t changed. Every pair of lightweight statement earrings is still packed by hand in my Baltimore studio, with your name written inside and all the little details I imagined at the very beginning.

Trying to be a content creator, but I filmed almost all these green agate slices slightly out of focus. 😂

Thankfully, the rich jewel tones still came through. Layers of emerald, forest green, mint, ivory, and touches of gold make every slice a little different. Once they become earrings, no two pairs will be exactly alike.

Tiny polymer clay canes ➝ one seriously pretty faux ivory stone slab 🤍✨

This is how I make one of my favorite polymer clay stone effects. I start with tiny ivory and gold clay canes, chop them into slices, arrange them into a slab, then blend everything together to create that layered agate-inspired look.

The mix of creamy ivory, translucent clay and metallic gold means no two sections of the slab turn out exactly the same, which is part of what I love about making handmade polymer clay jewelry.

It always looks a little chaotic in the beginning, but once the pieces are pressed together, the faux stone pattern starts to appear.

The Raya earrings are getting a little fall restock 🍊🍂

These start with one of my orange patterned clay canes, sliced down into individual bits before they’re smushed together, cut, cured, finished and turned into the pair you can see waiting at the top of my workbench.

I usually reach for a tissue blade when I’m slicing canes, but every once in a while I pull out my Lucy Clay slicer when I want those nice, consistent slices. 🤷🏻‍♀️

And yes, I absolutely keep the finished earrings nearby while I work. Part reference, part motivation. 😂
