The Modern Times Open Mic has held a special place in many of our hearts for close to a decade. Change inevitably happens, but we felt the community that was built and the inclusive, nurturing, musical environment that was fostered by Maureen Nelson at Modern Times was too special to allow it to fade away. So, we (Noah Silver and Migue
l Ruiz) have decided to carry on the torch and create a new open mic in the spirit of Modern Times, every 3rd Friday of the month, with a few new bells and whistles added. Located at a highly creative coffee and music center, Bump 'n Grind has a focus on music and artistic collaboration. Check out their vinyl record listening station while you enjoy some coffee/food. Bonus points for having beer and wine available as well. Signups at 7:30, music from 8-10, with a hang out/meet and greet from 10-10:30. To maintain the previous welcoming environment this open mic will also remain unplugged, and we'll ask the crowd to keep conversations outside so every performing artists receives the warm attention they deserve. We'll have a hand selected Featured Artist play three songs at 9pm, followed by a five minute live streaming podcast interview, after which the open mic will resume. Raffle tickets will be handed out when you arrive, and at 10:25 there will be a drawing to win two free hours of studio time at The Silver Jukebox Recording Studio.
