To keep a circle flat and perfect it is simple mathematics. If you start with 12 in your circle, increase by 12 each round. If you start with 8 in your circle, increase 8 every round and so on. As an example, with 12, your second round would have 2 stitches in each one and you now have 24 stitches. Round 3 and all rounds, increase one stitch every 12 stitches.
Your second round will always have 2 stitches in each stitch around whether it is started with 8-10-12 or however many. From there you will continue your circle to make as large as you like and it will stay flat and perfectly round :)
