So excited to hear that this tailgate is going to Bulgaria!!

A little history on why it looks like it does. Mike Brown had this tailgate in a junk pile that had been pushed with a dozer or tractor. We were looking for old tailgates to make wall mounts with lights, so Mike went to his junk pile, pulled out this crumpled up tailgate and brought it to dad and said “here, fix it.” It was so crumpled up, I literally put it on the carport and jumped up and down on it to try and straighten it. We decided to cut out what you see here. We straightened it enough so it would hang, sanded it so there were no sharp edges and I put a bunch of coats of clear on it. Then we made sconces out of pipes and old glass electric insulators that we drilled holes, put lighting in them and then mounted them on 2 old boxcar wood pieces.

This really was one of my favorite pieces and I am so happy someone loved it as much as I did. Even cooler that it is going to another country. Thanks Mikey B for the project!!

This afternoon Dad and I, along with Everett Reynolds from Darryl Starbird Rod and Custom Show met with Tommy Hutch and John-Marc from John 3:16 Mission to present John 3:16 with a check for money raised in February at the pin stripe panel jam and charity auction.

I thought I had a pretty good idea of what John 3:16 was, but let me tell you it is so much more than I knew. When we arrived, we met Ryan who gave us a tour and told us about the organization. John 3:16 is a church that has services 365 days a year but it also provides meals for the homeless in Tulsa, overnight housing for men and helps those men with services. They also have a program called overcomers that helps men get over whatever hurdles they are facing, get jobs and get into housing. They have had great success since 2023 when that program was started. We were also told tonight that they provide around 15,000 meals a month.

While the money we raised may not seem like much to most, it will help John 3:16 provide over 1400 meals to people who otherwise might not eat. As always, we want to thank the artist, people who donate items for the auctions and people who help and support Dad and I during the show. We are grateful to everyone for their time and support. If anyone is interested in volunteering at John 3:16 or donating, feel free to contact me and I will get you in touch with the right people.

Tonight was our 5th year of doing the Pin Stripe Pit, Panel Jam and charity auction at the Daryl Starbird Rod and Custom Show. First of all, we truly have some of the best pin stripers in the business and they are all amazing to work with, without them we couldn’t do what we do. Huge thank you to:

Crooked Lines by Monk
Bob Rick
Jared Han
Brandon McCoy
Eric Burnett
Logan Leeds
Blake Stiner
Sandi P
Ryan Evans
Kit Kat
And up and coming artist Alexis

The charity we chose this year for the auction was the John 3:16 Mission. We were so thankful to have Tommy from John 3:16 there with us tonight at the auction because he was able to tell everyone that the money raised tonight will provide over 1400 meals for the homeless community in Tulsa.

One of the things I am always so thankful and sometimes overwhelmed by is the generosity of the car show community. We always receive donations for the auction, whether it be pieces that are brought for the stripers to do artwork on, finished pieces donated by pin stripers or bodyshops or like tonight, a straight out of the blue donation from the celebrities, the kindness of these actions never go unnoticed by us. A huge thank you to all of the bidders as well.

I hope I don’t miss anyone, and if I do please know it is not intentional. It’s late, I’m tired and I’m pretty sure I could blame some of it on the exhaust fumes and tire smoke I inhaled today. We would like to thank the following for their donations to the auction:

Eddy Locust

Bob Rick
Jared Han
Brandon McCoy
Eric Brunett
Logan Leeds
Blake Stiner
Sandy P
Ryan Evans
Kit Kat
Alexis K
Stosh and Sabina Japczyk
Mike Brewington
Hogshooter Customs
Lil Daddy Roth
Farmtruck and AZN
Chris Kennedy
Mike Stiner

Again, if i missed anyone it was not intentional. We also didn’t have a photographer this year and dad and I were too busy to get very many, so if you have some good pictures of the panel jam and artwork, please send them to us.

Delivered this 1954 Victor Coca-Cola 3 bin chest cooler turned into a couch to a very happy customer today. As you can see from the pictures, it had to be completely gutted and some major restoration done not to mention the thought process making it into a functional couch. We want to thank Bob Rick for the hand painted lettering he did for us. We are very happy with how beautiful this piece turned out!

We don’t always have to cut everything in half, Richie. The first three pictures are the finished product done for a customer. The rest of the pictures are the before and process of getting this pedal car ready to clear and put back together. Clear coat rust is my favorite color!!

Our friend Michael Jones opened his store Gasoline Alley Classics in Sapulpa, Oklahoma last weekend. This is a must see stop on Route 66. The building was originally a Model T assembly plant and dealership in 1917. Kelsey’s 1926 Touring Model T is on loan to Michael and is sitting in the same spot on the showroom floor as an original photo taken in 1917. Gasoline Alley Classics sells car memorabilia and art (some of our pieces are for sale there also, but more on that in another post) and is a great historical building in Sapulpa. If you are traveling Route 66 or just looking for something to do in Oklahoma, we recommend checking out Michael’s place!
