Nikhajewelry Welcome! I have been making jewelry for about 21 years now and love learning new techniques to bring you original, creative designs.

I specialize in making personalized stamped metal and gemstone jewelry, with a particular focus on science/geek themes. I can make intricate wirewrapped designs that would stun on the red carpet, or simply wrapped gemstones for the elegant, understated look. I am learning to cut my own gemstones - cabs as well as faceting and also dabble in the metal clays.

Snow day project - jade and sterling silver necklace!

This jade is from British Columbia, Canada, which is one of the world’s biggest suppliers of jade.

So what IS jade, anyway? There are two different rocks that are recognized as jade by the jewelry industry - jadeite, which is a rock made of pyroxene minerals, and nephrite, which is a rock made of amphibole minerals. The Chinese are the largest consumers of jade in the world as it has important cultural value for them, dating back to ancient times.

BC jade is the nephrite variety. It has a rich, beautiful green color with small black inclusions. This is my favorite type of jade, although ALL jade is beautiful!
