NASAโs Voyager 1 is now so distant that messages travel almost 24 hours through space before reaching it. ๐ ๐
The spacecraft currently operates more than 160 times farther from Earth than our planet is from the Sun, deep beyond the heliopause where interstellar space begins. Commands sent from Earth take roughly 23 hours and 39 minutes to arrive, meaning even the speed of light feels slow across such enormous distances.
Despite being launched in 1977, Voyager 1 continues collecting valuable information about magnetic fields, energetic particles, and the mysterious environment between stars. Scientists still rely on its instruments to study regions humanity may not physically visit for centuries.
Voyager 1 is not just a spacecraft anymore โ itโs humanityโs first true interstellar explorer. ๐โจ
