The Future of Fashion is Sustainable. Thank you for inviting us to be a part of this discussion. It was an inspiring topic to break out of Covid lockdown with. Covid has and is continuing to teach us all about what happens when we act outside of our planetary boundaries with over production and over consumption. We have the solutions to get human caused global warming under control. It’s time to act, and act in radical ways. Vote for leaders who will fight and put real policies in place for climate justice, vote with your dollar for brands who are doing the right thing, inspire your circle of influence to buy and act mindfully. Tonight’s conversation was a great reminder to stay committed! 💪

Spot on. A must read. Circular Economy has become another way for those at the top of the fashion economy to profit off a problem that they created without addressing the root issue of extractive and exploitative overproduction.

"The Circular Economy, as promoted by the titans of linear industries, has been ripe for greenwashing because it is a materials-based framework with little mention of people and no mention of capital. As a result, brands launch take-back programs before they pay an actual living wage."

"Paying garment workers a living wage is not only just, it is perhaps the most accessible mechanism we have to catalyze a divestment from overproduction."

"The Global North loves to talk in circles, debating the legitimacy of the word “sustainability” while the people who labor day in and day out in Kantamanto have been doing sustainability. Let’s prioritize Kantamanto’s work to create a Circular Economy, not that of the people who have benefited most from the linear economy. It bears repeating that Kantamanto is among the largest resale/reuse/recommerce/upcycling platforms/economies in the world. "

Pay living wages, tax brands for product and resource waste, internalize both social and environmental impact of the entire production process - just to start!

About this Event
Communities of color have been living and working regeneratively for generations; from individual acts such as recycling to more community based practices like mutual aid to holistic systems like regenerative agriculture. These practices are now being recognized by the mainstream as “new solutions” under the catch all term of “sustainability". While communities of color are the most negatively impacted by the effects of our extractive economy, they aren’t recognized by the mainstream for holding the solutions, and are kept from creating mainstream solutions. Join us for a discussion about how the sustainable fashion industry needs to rebalance the power dynamic, and what some groups are doing now. Register to receive the event link.
