Ever wonder why someone names their business what they did? Well InKandations Gems began as Kandy’s Kreations. Not a very creative name for a Handmade, One of a Kind or Unusual Design jewelry business!

So after using that for many years I decided to find a unique name that fit my business and me! InKandations Gems is a combination of Individuality and Kandace and Creations, thus InKandations and Gems because those are what I use most in jewelry and I feel my creations are “gems”.

I have always felt jewelry can totally change an outfits look. Living through the 1980’s and the big hair and horrible big round graduated size all one color bead necklaces, I learned a lot. Yes those necklaces were hideous, but they went with the big hair and a lot of the fashions. They were so hideous they were a “statement piece!”

So if I were to equate why I design the way I do, I probably owe thanks to the ‘80’s!

I’m going to start the New Year out right! Please get after me if I don’t post the month’s birthstone information at the beginning of each month!

January’s birthstone is Garnet.

This stone comes in several varieties - Garnet the deep reddish or burgundy color stone (typically used as January’s birthstone)

There are actually 20 different varieties. I bet you didn’t know that or maybe you did? These varieties are:

This is only 12 but I noticed the online article that said there were 20 had several of the same names with garnet added to the end so I didn’t list these.
