Now that most of the mail club subscribers have likely received their envelopes I can finally share the final look at my new painting titled “The Soil Receives it.” It is the first tribute to a series exploring Tlazolteotl that’ll culminate with a beautiful collaborative art show with the wonderful and talented .irmapatricia at the end of the year. Now the story of this painting is of my first Popoxcomitl that broke and had to go through its own journey. I wanted to capture the mournful spirit but also the beauty of it being received by Tlazolteotl and integrated back into the earth. I’m so excited to keep painting and sharing more stories. Tlazocamati to everyone that supports and cherishes my works. 🙏🏽🌿

Also not sure if anyone cared for the stamps I picked for this month—not on theme AT ALL but I used to play D&D during lunch times during my sophomore year in highschool in the theater room. Sadly all the players graduated and the game ended. But honestly it was something I really looked forward to. I’ve always loved the escape fantasy epics provided. Just sharing something a little more personal 🧙‍♀️

This poem is titled “Our Mother” it’s about the women who had to be warriors to raise us, the collective experience as women raising children in this age, and about our Mother Earth, Tonantzin. When I wrote this I felt surprised by the emotion of anger that was most prominent. I’ve written poems before about my mother and the beautiful things she’s done, but this time I felt indignation for the difficulties that don’t have to be this way and the way we are ravishing the earth. What happens to Mother Earth happens to us all. I ran with that symbol. This is a chicana written poem. I didn’t see it happen but you can see at the end a hummingbird hovers for a second. The hummingbird is sacred and represents our will power, I felt so blessed learning about his visit 🥹 thank you to and for creating beautiful spaces to express ourselves

I talk a lot about fire around here, and to me fire isnt just about the sahumador, its about our creative life force. To be in touch with your inner fire is all about being in touch with your authenticity and creative spirit. It is what animates us and gives us life. I use my personal experiences to storytell/document and share some of the things I have learned/am learning. I’m excited to send out volume 10 of Tlacuilolli Del Fuego Mail Club. Tlazocamati to everyone that has been part of the journey. I’m so happy to be able to return to traditional painting for this next issue now that the dust has settled from my big move and my studio is now up and running again. I’m so grateful to you all for supporting this work. I cannot express it enough. 🙏🏽 I love sharing my creativity with you and your support helps me continue to do that.
