Guatemala is one of the world’s few sources of gem-quality jadeite—valued for over thousands of years by Mesoamerican cultures.

This striking 14-inch dagger is a modern example of an ancient legacy and craft. It features a Guatemalan jadeite blade that shifts from prized “Olmec blue” at the hilt to a purplish blue at the tip, paired with a richly patinated bronze handle. Olmec blue takes its name from the Olmec civilization, a Mesoamerican culture that highly valued blue to greenish blue jadeite from about 1500 to 400 BCE.

The bird adorning the handle adds another layer of meaning. It depicts the resplendent quetzal, the national bird of Guatemala and a powerful symbol of the region’s cultural heritage.

What is the most unique jadeite carving you’ve seen?

The Tucson Gem Show is where jewelry artists come to learn, connect, and grow. 💍
From polishing cast jewelry and cutting cabochons with the JoolTool to learning gemstone faceting at the Facetron boot, this show is a hands-on education in lapidary and jewelry art.

Small community. Big passion.
