Bev Barnett Art

Bev Barnett Art I believe in infinite possibility.

Texture is the thread that runs through my exploration of the ties that bind us as families, communities, and a global society, and my art celebrates connection, unity, and the pursuit of a world that works for everyone.

I love using Poke W**d. All parts of it. Its one of those invasives that can drive gardeners nuts, with its tap root that goes on and on. I get a rush from coaxing usefulness from something so hated by so many.

All gloved and goggled to rinse my iris pulp! I'm prepping for a pulp painting using natural dyes like pomegranate rind, Hopi Black Sunflower seeds, coreopsus petals, Black Knight Scabiosa petals, madder root and Stickey Monkey flower. Its kind of like painting your house... the prep takes way longer than the painting 😊

'Wave of Relief'

Sari silk coiled basket, created this week at Mercy General Hospital, Sacramento during my husband's (transcatheter aortic valve replacement) procedure and 24 hour recovery. Yes... a new heart valve on Monday, and he's home Tuesday afternoon!

Relief doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. I'm so grateful for this amazing, minimally invasive medical solution, for the Cardiac Team and for the care he received at Dignity Health's Alex G. Stanos Heart & Vascular Center.

The past two months have been part roller coaster and part snail race as his severe aortic stenosis was discovered (sorry for canceling our holiday party at the last minute, friends) and we navigated an initially very uncertain path.

We kept this private as we were going through it, but I did lean on our amazing children and a few close friends who I'm so very grateful for as well. Thank you.

Now, I rest. ❤️

Do you remember "making soup" in the backyard as a kid? Grab some flowers, berries, blades of grass and maybe some dirt, then mix it all together. Such simple fun born of curiosity. Fuel for a life of creativity.

My papermaking studio is kind of like that.

(scroll to see the resulting paper)

Dandelion is one of the most accessible plant fibers for both weaving and papermaking. I've always got scraps and snips from other projects lying around, and that's how my "soup" takes form.

I'm hoping to schedule more papermaking workshops here in the Sacramento area in the Spring.

In these hard, first weeks of the New Year, I've found myself ignoring my blender and my leaves and my plant fibers and drifting toward collage and paint. Just creating for me. Most of these are cards, though, so if I have your address, you might find one in the mail. You never know.

Hang in there, everyone. The world is spinning safely at your feet. Keep showing up. Look with love on everyone you meet.

Now is what we are.
