I made some repo's of a belt hardware that my mentor and lifelong friend Mike Murphy made back in the 70's. His "bench" was a locust post with a square of plywood nailed to it, on top of the plywood was two fire bricks. A small (by the standards of the day) oxyacetylene victor torch kit, slip joint pliers, needle nose pliers, ball pein hammer, and a 70 lb anvil. Put a buffing wheel on an old washing machine motor, and you good to go! I would cut belt strips, dye & edge them, and Murphy made buckles of the different astrological signs. This combo sold for $10.00. 50 years later, that dynamic is reversed! Murphy's daughter Michelle has asked me to reproduce a treasured original Murphy buckle from the early days. I couldn't resist this ironic reversal of roles. As I was utilizingf many items of my tools & devices I couldn't help but wonder what Murphy, Bruce Linthicum, and I might have been able to come up with when we were the "three amigos" in the little metal shop up in Swindler's Hollow back in the day.

As the images will show, the tool kit has evolved from the slip joint and needle nose plier days.

When I decided to make Bola Tie Pendants, I soon discovered that the commercially available tips for the ends of the braided leather cords weren't all that attractive, so . . . I had to figure out how to make them myself. After a bit of trial and error, I came up with an acceptable solution. Weeks later I needed to make some more - this time I documented the process. More to them than meets the eye.
