Hello Everyone,
I would like to start this post by saying that there is a chance we are wrong, so please do not be too harsh with the people involved. I am not trying to make things harder on these people, I am just trying to find an answer. Also, this post is bound to be lengthy and it may be hard to follow as many people seem to be involved.
I was informed last week of a post on garage sale days looking for someone to take a Siberian husky. According to what I was told, the dog was found in 2010 and the owners were moving so they needed to rehome. The ad was taken down when, supposedly, many people were questioning her about where she obtained the dog from. I got a phone number when someone looked at other ads this person had posted and found a phone number.
I contacted this person pretending to be interested in adopting the dog. The original reaction from this was that there was no ad and that they are not even on that site. When I finally gave in and told them the truth, they finally told me that the dog was posted for the poster's sister. They would not give me the sister's information, so I figured I would need to go to authorities with it and told them that - they gave me the sister's husband's/boyfriend's number.
The sister's husband was very nice and somewhat cooperative. His story, however, was a bit shaky. He says that the dog was obtained in 2011 through an old gentleman. He says that the old gentleman had the dog "for a year from uhhh....when he was f....born I guess." When asked to contact the old gentleman, he responded with "that's private information and the poor old gentleman is going into a nursing home." He says that they are getting rid of the dog because they live in an apartment complex and people are complaining about the size of the dog. The dog is currently being "stored" at his friend's house. We asked him to send a picture of the dog's belly. The belly markings did not match but it is very possible that this marking could have faded with age. The dog is licensed in his name (but if it was Maverick, we have his papers) and supposedly licensure was transferred to him from the old gentleman.
I'm attaching the picture of the dog. Again, I could be wrong. It has been 4 years since Maverick has left. However, there are too many similarities in the stories for me to feel comfortable about this. The sister's husband is no longer responding to us (I did tell him that I was trusting what he said). After thinking about it a while longer, and looking at the picture, I still believe that this could be Maverick. Does anyone have any advice on the steps that need to be taken next? When I look at the dog in the picture, I see Maverick's facial expression....
