A woman at an event was looking at my cord cutting kits and said to me that she was hoping to find one that works because she paid an Etsy Witch 3 times already to do a cord cutting for her and her ex is still texting her... I was so angry. This is not how it works! I explained cord cuttings to her and I want to do it publicly here to save people from being scammed by a "witch" with either no morals or no idea what she's actually doing. To start, cord cuttings are meant to be done by you, not for you. Sure it can psychologically work for you to know someone cut your cord, but it's not the same effect as doing it yourself. Cutting a cord is empowering. By letting someone else cut that cord for you, you are not actually reclaiming that power, you're giving power over to someone else. Cutting a cord only cuts the connection for yourself. You cannot affect the energy of the person you are cutting the cord from. The metaphorical cord is not singular, you both have one, and only you can cut your own cord. Cord cuttings are telling yourself that you refuse to be connected any longer. Cord cuttings are reclaiming your personal energy instead of allowing someone else to share it or affect it. A cord cutting says "I am officially done with you." Another thing I see all the time on witchtok is assigning all kinds of meaning to how the flame burns, whose side burns first, whose candle burns harder... these meanings are only meaningful if you allow them to be or want them to be, or will them to be. Air flow ultimately affects how the flame behaves. If you feel more empowered by assigning meanings, then do it. I've done it myself because it felt validating to see my candle burn with the rage I felt. I felt I was controlling my candle's flame with my energy. But I also had my first cord cutting not cut... the string just kept absorbing wax and never lit, and I got bent out of shape thinking it meant I was not meant to cut the cord... it actually meant I was using the wrong type of string and when I fixed that it worked. If the way the flame behaves does not align with your goals then don't allow it to mean anything. This kind of magick comes from within you; it's a power move. It's cathartic. And only you hold the power to declare how successful your cord cutting is. 💜
