Emms chicken farm. Just an Ohio gal raising chickens and ducks down here in NC. Focus on silkies and silver appleyards

Every single day she jumps the fence to lay an egg right outside the door to the yard.
Ignore the mess we have feral kids playing outside all day long.

This owl is a menace. Couldn’t find a life size scarecrow so found “Diego” on Amazon. Just need to get him some pants 🙈 but hopefully he will work.
The audacity of him to stare straight into the camera before getting my naked neck boy.

Will update if he’s a good owl deterrent or not.

I was really really hoping I was dealing with a possum or raccoon but alas it’s an owl. Anyone know what kind it is? Central NC. Big enough to take out and eat a Brahma hen.
I have some stuff coming to help deter the fellow. I’ve heard the hoo-ing for the last few months and since letting do of my loud obnoxious geese he decided it was snack time.

Just a box of freshly hatched silkies! Those lavenders are gorgeous! 😍

The garden and food forest have really started to flourish. Not a big radish or Swiss chard fan but the chickens and geese love the greens and will eat the radish if you crush it up.

This year we’ll have apples, peaches, pears, plums, blueberries, figs, grapes, green beans, peas, corn, strawberries, basil, carrots, Swiss chard, radish, turnips, garlic, potato’s, onions, cucmbers, sunflowers and I’m sure I’m forgetting a thing or two.

I still need to get my golden thornless raspberry seeds in the ground and my pumpkin patch going.

Oh it’s been a busy year but finally getting back into the swing of things.
Here are some of the babies hatched out over the last few months. Quail for a friend, some goslings, Easter/olive eggers and silkies.

The incubators (and mother duck and goose) are filled with geese eggs, duck eggs, and silkies!

Wish I had started gardening sooner. Picking fresh lettuce, tomatoes and carrots (radishes too but in a salad, yuck) in late November and eating them same day is awesome.

Hello all! It’s that time of year to offer up an environmental friendly way to dispose of your Halloween pumpkins again.

Once the holiday season is over I offer pumpkin drop offs and you can even smash the pumpkins in the yard and the chickens will clean up the mess.

Just want a fun activity to do with the kids? Have an ex you want to imagine their face on the pumpkin as you go to town smashing it with baseball bats, golf clubs or shovels?
Some of the chickens and ducks will even eat the pumpkins out of your hand.

My 6 year old would also love showing off the birds and giving a little farm tour, there may even be some baby chicks to pet.
