This was a pretty one. I’m usually not a huge fan bright, polished hardware… but this finish is perfect.

My local followers should be aware that Walnut Avenue Woodworking has firewood available. A 4’x6’ rack of well-seasoned various hardwoods for $70 is ready for you to load up and take home, as well as wrapped $5 bundles. There’s a drop box in the entry door for payment if I’m not there.

If you are interested in larger quantities and/or need delivery, send me a message.

I regret that I only took four pictures of this one. This craftsman style hallway bench was made for a customer's entryway to provide a place to sit when changing shoes, and a place to store those shoes. The tiles are held in place by an easy to remove panel on the back. I loved the idea of having a seasonal rotation of tiles that are easy to swap out. Since I made this in 2021 I've intended to make another for myself, but haven't gotten to it yet.

To my local friends and customers, this is really old news. To those who know me only online, you should know that the lights are turned out for good in the basement on Walnut avenue where the first picture frame, first jewelry armoire, first dining chair, etc. were milled, assembled, finished and polished. No more pieces of furniture will be hauled up a narrow staircase to get them out of the shop, no more sawdust will be tracked into the kitchen, and no more children will fall asleep to the drone of a dust collector.

That’s not because I’m hanging it up or changing trades, it’s because I’ve finally made the new home of Walnut Avenue Woodworking livable enough (barely) to move in. The commute from the living room to the basement is something I’ll miss, but 5 times more space will be worth the trip clear across town.

So you want your dog to have steps to climb onto the couch AND you want to maintain a cohesive style?… you got it.

I suppose I could make a people version for reaching the top bookshelf, but for now this CAD file will keep the name “Craftsman Pet Steps.”

There’s a lot I like about this cabinet, but two in particular:

-Those pulls are from an Etsy shop, The Foundryman. They’re solid brass, and wonderfully heavy. It’s neat to me that they are sleek enough to be appropriate for mid century furniture like this, but bulky and square enough for Arts and Crafts furniture as well. And the name “Foundryman” couldn’t cater any better to my taste... old, strong, and industrial.

-This cabinet is sized for a very specific place, and I love being able to do that for people.

In this week’s episode of “bigger is always better,” here’s the result of a request for a Jewelry Island. Assuming you have a closet or dressing room large enough to put furniture in the middle of the room instead of against the wall, you can double your storage by putting two jewelry armoires back to back to make a single, 300 lb colossus. (Remember to check your door widths!)

This customer was looking for a version of my mid century armoire that would be approximately double the width, and without the side cabinets. Lacking doors, it’s not correct to call it an “armoire,” so I started calling it the “jewelry dresser.” Though I forgot to take pictures, the drawers are stuffed with a variety of dividers to make the most of all this flat storage.
