First LAB show coming in hot!
🎤 JUST ANNOUNCED: The lineup has just dropped for the very first edition of THE LAB - PDX's newest rap & bass monthly - presented by Underground Unheard!
// ABOUT THE LAB //
THE LAB is a new monthly that is dedicated to building and bridging the Portland Hip Hop and EDM scene. This monthly will start off each show with an open cipher for any artists or paid guests to get on the microphone and share their words. Freestyles or written – all types of wordsmiths are welcome! Every show will consist of five hours of live rappers, DJs and producers of all genres including Rap, Hip Hop, DnB, Dubstep, House, Future Bass, UK Garage and more! We will always keep the cover charge low for you!
// OPEN MIC CIPHER //
Be sure to arrive when the doors open, especially if you are a rapper. At 7pm there will be a 30 minute open mic cipher to perform over classic boom bap and trap beats from the 90s-00s. Come and spit written or freestyles over beats provided by a live turntablist.
// RHYMEWAVE //
Still riding the wave from his epic sophomore release, “Myth Hop”, Rhymewave continues to baffle Hip Hop heads with his mind bending lyrics and rap schemes. He is a true freedom fighter who uses his complex vocabulary to drop gems on the unexpected listener.
// DJ NYKON //
He is most known throughout the West Coast as the DJ for Luckyiam (of Living Legends) but when he is not on tour Nykon is can be found in the studio crafting up a beat. Some of Nykon’s more familiar sounds resemble Hip Hop, Trap, Drill, UK Garage and DnB to name a few. Not only is he an A+ producer, this mutli talented artist is also a DJ who specializes in quick mixes to keep the dance floor bouncing all night!
// ROB THE UNIVERSE //
Rob has a unique style that blends acoustic guitar with singing and rapping. He specializes in story-telling raps that help the listener paint a vivid picture of the song. The discog consists primarily of concept albums that dive deep into the topics of space, time travel and everything else sci-fi.
// DJ ZONE //
Perhaps you are a fan of Aseop Rock and heard DJ Zone’s insane scratch talent from the Impossible Kid album? Or maybe you are an old school Portlander and remeber him from the PDX Hip Hop crew “Oldominion”? If you are a rapper or singer who lives in P-Town maybe you hacve been to Sloth City and had Zone put in some studio work for you? No matter how you look at it this turntablist is a staple in the scene who has been grinding for decades.
// NATURE’S APPRENTICE //
Also know as “NAT APP” or “Bobby FKN White” is the ultimate Jack of All Trades. He is a technical rapper who specializes in story-telling rap, a DJ/Turntablist and a beat producer. Nat is also the founder of the music collective “Underground Unheard”, the Hip Hop dueo”True Believers” and the founder of the monthly “THE LAB”.
// DJ WHISTLEBLOWER X SPIT STIX // *
DJ Whistleblower is the DJ monikor for Nature’s Apprentice aka Bobby FKN White. He is a turntablist and producer who plays and creates halftime, DnB, Jungle, UK Garage and Hip Hop music. Spit Stix is a famous drummer who has been part of the LA music scene since the 1970’s. He is most known for his roll as drummer for the legendary punk/hardcore band “FEAR”. Since moving to Portland, Spit Stix joined the PDX punk band “Nasal Rod”. When he is not touring the world Spit Stix can be found in Portland giving drumming lessons or maybe working on a track in his studio.
* This is a B2B set where DJ Whistleblower will be DJing all original self-made DnB and Jungle beats, while Spit Stix plays the drums live on a full drum kit.
