Over the years I have collected these pieces of amethyst on the beach. I found two in the past ten days, so it seemed like a good time to share. As I put them down on this piece of paper, the stones formed a rough peace sign. I moved a few of them around to create a proper one. Every time I find one of these, I wonder of its origins. Is there a mother rock, a larger piece somewhere in the water that yields these gems? How long ago was it formed and what forces created it? Did it travel in the saddle of a glacier to reach the bay? Organic life has come and gone, but these rocks stand still, witnesses to a time long past.
