Dale was like my second dad and I can't believe he's actually gone. I vended so many reptile shows with him and even a few flea markets. RIP buddy 🦎🐍🐸

Remembering Dale Mitchell

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Dale Mitchell, a true cornerstone of the Pittsburgh Reptile Show. For 36 years, Dale was a dedicated reptile and bug (Feeder) vendor, a familiar and welcoming face to so many in our community. In all those years, he only missed two events—a testament to his passion, commitment, and love for what he did.

Dale wasn’t just a vendor; he was a friend, a mentor, and an irreplaceable part of the reptile world. His presence, knowledge, and humor will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. I will really miss his weekly calls to me, stories of his life, those who he met and interacted with along the way, his constant price haggling and joking.

Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. Rest in peace, Dale. You will always be remembered.

We will be doing a small collection for Dale’s Family to help cover funeral expenses, and final costs passed on to them in his passing. See link below or ask us in person at the Next Pittsburgh Reptile Show on April 6th

🍪 Lavender Earl Grey Cookies 🌸
Ingredients:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp culinary lavender, finely ground
2 Earl Grey tea bags, contents emptied
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
Lavender flowers for garnish
Instructions:

Prepare the Dough:

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, ground lavender, contents of the Earl Grey tea bags, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Shape the Cookies:

Roll the dough into a log about 2 inches in diameter. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until firm.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Slice the chilled dough into 1/4-inch thick rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
Bake the Cookies:

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Garnish and Serve:

Once cooled, sprinkle the cookies with a few lavender flowers for an elegant touch.
Serve the Lavender Earl Grey cookies on a tray with a steeping cup of Earl Grey tea on the side.
Preparation Time:

Prep: 20 minutes
Chill: 1 hour
Cook: 12 minutes
Total: 1 hour 32 minutes
Serves: 24 cookies

I meant to post this days ago but this week has been absolutely crazy. It's time for Steel City Con !

This weekend, special guest celebrity Little Lord Beerus will be doing photo ops for a $5 donation and signing pawtographs for a $10 donation. All of our proceeds directly benefit the rescue cats, but we would like to do something special for our dear friend Amber Beaman who passed away last weekend. We're going to give half of our donations to her family to put towards her leftover medical bills and funeral expenses. So come out to the con make sure you stop by our booth in row i ☺️
