My next “Favorite” is a person. My wonderful friend and client for 30 years passed away in September. Marjie was a high school teacher who was also the homeroom teacher to both of my kids. All the kids loved her! She was Marjie and they loved that she let them call her by her first name. Plus, she always kept a stash of candy for them in her classroom! She had a love and respect for the kids she taught and they knew how much she loved them and rooted for them in all their endeavors. She hosted Young Life Club at her home many times and made it such a blast for the kids and adults alike! She hosted such fun dinners for friends and family alike, everyone was always welcome. She made it all look so easy even though it was so much work. Teaching and Young Life were her life’s passions and she was born for both!
She was married to the love of her life, Roger and they had three children and five grandchildren. Roger would bring Marjie to Onyx every two weeks for her appointments and he was a tireless caregiver to her. My heart breaks for him as he lost his love and best friend although he knows he will be with her in Heaven again, one day.
I loved my friend and I miss her deeply. I was remembering how hard she would laugh when I was giving her a pedicure and her laughter was so contagious, I would crack up laughing myself! This makes me smile as I type this. Marjie and Roger were guests at my wedding, and before that, they were amazing, generous friends to me while I was raising two kids as a single mom. I will never, ever forget that and I am eternally grateful for the times I could call her to talk about the challenges of raising a teenaged son and daughter. She was always so supportive with the best advice.
I love this picture of Marjie & Roger which I took of them at their daughter’s wedding. And so, I made this ornament to give Roger so when he looks at it, he will see his beautiful Marjie and remember that Heaven is not that far away. I love you my dear friend and I look forward to the day when I see you again, Marjie. 💜 The wonderful memories I have of you, are with me now and always.
