South + West = Eclectic creations! I am Renee Meredith, a true "Southern Belle". I grew up in rural Alabama and then found my way to the big city of Phoenix a few years ago. It's true, you can take the girl outta the country, but you can't quite take all the country outta the girl! I began drawing at age three. At age four, I won my first art contest and appeared on my local TV station’s Morning Show. To console my “mid-life crisis” I finally returned to art, which has brought much ** sparkle** to my life. (That is why you will find a touch of *sparkle* in many of my artwork pieces; look carefully, or you might miss it!) I am a personable, self-taught multi-media artist. I have an “anything goes” philosophy when it comes to my subject matter and style. This has resulted in my multi-media eclectic design styles and keen eye for a variety of interesting subject matter. If a subject matter catches my eye, I work at it using whatever mixture of media it takes until I fulfill my vision and get it “just right”. I just love it when I’m surprised by a result I like even better than my original expectation. I want to bring joy to people through art. Be it as simple as bringing a smile to a face or as personal as creating a commission that fulfills someone’s vision. It just warms my heart and brings me a great thrill when someone appreciates my artwork . My company, Drink-N-Draw Art by Renee Meredith originated from my personal “mid-life” crisis. Successful in my day-job career, I had lost a part of myself over the years. Without realizing it, I was taking my day job way too personally and was letting it determine my self –worth. So in spite of the support of my awesome husband, I was still missing something. I had lost my ** sparkle**. I finally started drawing again; just before a local CopperCon. There, I met the amazing artist and “herstorian” Trina Robbins, who was creator of the first all female contributor comic book. She was so inspiring. I also met an awesome local artist who has been successful in pursuing her art career while maintaining her day job. She took some time with me and looked at some of my sketch cards. She was so positive and encouraging- even gave me my first Micron pens and white Jelly Roll. I have been a blaze of creativity ever since. We started meeting at a major coffee house chain for our own drink-n-draws. These meetings have brought me such inspiration, joy, and a great new friendship that has become the beginning of an exciting, new chapter in my life full of **sparkle**. (That is why you will find a touch of sparkle in many of my artwork pieces). I decided to officially call myself an artist and give some Cons a try. So, the name for my art company is “Drink N Draw Art by Renee Meredith”.
