Congratulations to LEO ASHER MARGOLIS on his outstanding graduate collection Drexel Westphal and on winning the annual John Wind Accessories Award! Accessories are integral to these layered, modular looks, whether as scarves, bags, belts, hats, holsters, wristbands, or knitted bag charms (the designer even name-checked as an inspiration when he visited us last week).

The collection is called “Divine Moments of Truth: The Path to Enlightenment”, which is not an exaggeration—Leo’s work makes you see fashion and even the world a little differently, a little more spiritually.

From his fashion show notes: A fall/winter collection of unisex knitwear and modular outerwear that navigates the tension between internal visionary experiences and the physical realities of nomadic life.

Utilizing Shima Seiki automated flatbed knitting technology and premium Italian mill-end yarns, the knitwear designs incorporate abstracted traditional textile patterns and motifs that manifest states of altered consciousness. The transcendent knit foundation is protected by a secondary system of transformative outerwear – engineered from deadstock technical wovens in shades of black – featuring detachable components and multi-wear configurations that allow garments to evolve into a protective shell or functional accessories.

By balancing the abstract and colorful complexity of the knitwear with the utilitarian functionality of modular weather resistant outerwear, the collection proposes a system of dress that functions as a fluid interface between the wearer’s internal vision and the ever-shifting environments they inhabit.
