The99Declaration.org

The99Declaration.org www.the99declaration.org is a declaration by, for and of the People demanding the removal of all private money in politics. This will not stand.

We will take back our democracy from the corporations! This Not for Profit group, formed under the laws of the State of New York. As set forth in The 99% Declaration (www.the99declaration.org) the purpose of this Working Group is to organize and fund a nationwide election of 876 delegates from all of the 435 congressional districts in the United States. One man and one woman will be elected from e

ach district by direct democratic voting that will take place over an entire weekend in late March or early April of 2012. Six additional delegates to represent American Samoa, the District of Columbia, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands will also be elected. The only requirements to run for delegate will be United States citizenship, having reached the age of 18 and a resident of the district for the six months prior to the March election. These Delegates shall not be permitted to run on any party line, label or platform and may only run as Americans. The candidates who run and/or serve as delegate may not take money from any private sources. Once elected by the voters, these 876 delegates will confer online and/or conference call to work on a draft petition of grievances between April and late June of 2012. The 876 Delegates of the National General Assembly will then formally convene on July 4, 2012 in the City of Philadelphia, the cradle of our democracy to debate, finalize, ratify and sign the fInal Petition for a Redress of Grievances to be served upon all three branches of the United States government. Not only will this final Petition for a Redress of Grievances be presented to all three branches of the federal government, it will also be sent to all candidates running for federal office in the 2012 general election well before election day in November 2012. It is the view of the original members of this working group that this public presentation of a formal Petition, as guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution, will compel the candidates running for federal office in 2012 to take a position on the specific points in the Petition while the entire world watches. Under section V of the 99% Declaration, if the final Petition for the Redress of Grievances is not acted upon by the government within a reasonable period of time, the Delegates shall reconvene and organize a nationwide, grassroots campaign to elect independent candidates in the 2014 midterm election. This election of independent candidates will seek to replace ALL of the 435 members of the House of Representatives and ALL Senators up for election in 2014. The candidates of this new party may not run using any party labels. Sadly, however, these independent candidates will have to take private money to get elected so they can change the system from within and enact the goals and solutions of the Petition for a Redress of Grievances ratified by the National General Assembly in July 2012. The voices of the 99% will be heard and be heeded or the current members of Congress, many of whom have an approval rating of less than 9%, will be replaced en masse by ordinary citizens who seek to serve the best interests of our country rather than do the harmful and avaricious bidding of corporations. Capitalism, an economic system, has merged with the state to create an unregulated corporatocracy which Benito Mussolini referred to as the purest form of Fascism. tempus neminem manet!

We are very excited about the progress we’ve made in preparation for the delivery of the grievances to our government. Michael Pollok, the driving force behind the idea that culminated in a convention of delegates in Philadelphia, has decided not to continue with the organization for personal reason...

Economics for the 99%

Many believe that when an individual or association of individuals makes large contributions for the purpose of aiding candidates of political parties in winning the elections, they expect, and sometimes demand, and occasionally, at least, receive, consideration by the beneficiaries of their contributions which not infrequently is harmful to the general public interest.

65 Cong. Rec. 9507–9508 (1924) (Statement of Sen. Joseph Robinson).

We all know that money is the chief source of corruption. We all know that large contributions to political campaigns not only put the political party under obligation to the large contributors, who demand pay in the way of legislation, but we also know that large sums of money are used for the purpose of conducting expensive campaigns through the newspapers and over the radio; in the publication of all sorts of literature, true and untrue; and for the purpose of paying the expenses of campaigners sent out into the country to spread propaganda, both true and untrue.

86 Cong. Rec. 2720 (1940) (Statement of Sen. John Bankhead).

The unchecked rise in campaign expenditures coupled with the absence of limitations on contributions and expenditures, has increased the dependence of candidates on special interest groups and large contributors.

H.R.Rep. No. 93–1239, at 3 (1974).

We have gone from basically a small donor system in this country where the average person believed they had a stake, believed they had a voice, to one of extremely large amounts of money, where you are not a player unless you are in the $100,000 or $200,000 range, many contributions in the $500,000 range, occasionally you get a $1 million contribution.... Many Members are tired of picking up the paper every day and reading about an important issue we are going to be considering, one in which many interests have large sums at stake and then the second part of the story reading about the large amounts of money that are being poured into Washington on one side or the other of the issue—the implication, of course being clear, that money talks and large amounts of money talk the loudest.

147 Cong. Rec. S2958 (daily ed. March 27, 2001) (statement of Senator Fred Thompson).

"The idea is to prevent ... the great aggregations of wealth from using their corporate funds, directly or indirectly, to send members of the legislature to these halls in order to vote for their protection and the advancement of their interests as against those of the public. It strikes at a constantly growing evil which has done more to shake the confidence of the plain people of small means of this country in our political institutions than any other practice which has ever obtained since the foundation of our Government. And I believe that the time has come when something ought to be done to put a check to the giving of $50,000 or $100,000 by a great corporation toward political purposes upon the understanding that a debt is created from a political party to it."

Elihu Root, Addresses on Government and Citizenship 143 (Bacon and Scott ed.1916) (original statement made before the Constitutional Convention of the State of New York in 1894).
