Fair Winds Jewelry-Barb Baur Fair Winds Jewelry features the wearable art creations of designer, Barb Baur. From the dawn of humanity, mankind has gathered near bodies of water.

The living environment of streams, rivers and oceans continues to hold a fascination for many of us. We seem to hear the water calling us to walk along the beach, toss pebbles into ponds and sail across oceans. I feel the call of the sea and am compelled to create personal ornamentation. Fair Winds Jewelry collections articulate a relationship with bodies of water and the vessels that navigate the

m. Radiating wavelike patterns call to mind the patterns left in the beach by the endless waves and the ripples of a pebble tossed in a still pond. The same patterns found in creatures which reside in the ocean. I’ve always lived on or near bodies of water on the East coast of the United States, including living aboard a sailboat for 12 years as well as cruising the Intracoastal Waterway. This obsession with the forms of maritime vessels has translated into striking jewelry that both interacts with and adorns the body.

I hope you can join me in July when I am having an exhibit of my work at one of my favorite places in Northeast Philadelphia, . The work will be on display in the first floor Library which has also has a beautiful view of the Delaware River. I’ll be doing an artist talk on Saturday July 13 at 1:00pm and would love to share this amazing place and my work with you.

It’s been 30 years since the last oh-so-brief visit I made to Mystic seaport. Finally returned on a gorgeous day that also happened to be the 100 year celebration of the Mystic drawbridge. A short visit with to the aquarium follow by full immersion in the seafaring history of this place. My sailor/artist soul is full.

It’s exciting to have other artists appreciate the strangeness in the forms I use. Thank you!!
