Just look at this falcon chick carved by Alfred Zimmerman of Idar-Oberstein. Every feather has been individually carved, right down to the underside 😳✨

What makes pieces like this so fun to look at is the level of obsession behind them. Smooth feathers, rough feathers, sapphire eyes, gold talons… someone really sat there thinking about every tiny detail 💫

And honestly? The expression on his face completely won me over 😂

One of the pieces that caught my attention from the Smithsonian collection was this ruby rose brooch featuring a Burmese ruby with a very personal history ✨

What makes it especially compelling is that the stone originally belonged to designer Christine Dai’s grandmother before eventually becoming part of one of her later creations 💫

There’s something beautiful about seeing a gemstone move through generations and then take on a completely new life through design. And now, the piece itself has become part of history after being gifted to the Smithsonian in 2025.
