Here’s the final product on the rear end suspension setup. With the factory torque tube rear end coming out I had to do a complete redesign. I initially bought a parallel 4 link kit but after putting it together for mock-up I couldn’t make it fit under the body without cutting sheet metal and only doing a statick drop I didn’t want to get that invasive. I ended up doing a Chevy truck style trailing arm setup with everything made from square and rectangular tube and flat stock I had laying around with a panhard bar. The rear end Is a tri-5 rear end out of a 55 bel air. I had to cut and head off the factory x frame crossmember and box the frame for my trailing arm mounts. I used 78 el Camino springs on some coil pads I made and the ride height came out perfect. This combined with cut springs in the front this this sits perfect and rides like a Buick should.

Sprayed out some speed shapes this weekend to test out base, candy, pearl and flake combinations for dyna. Holy hell, how could you not choose this candy red? We’ll be using Grant 7 “BARARCUS GOLD” metallic base and Grant 7 “RED RUM” candy. This color is incredible. I can’t wait to spray this thing and eventually try out the other candies they have in the future.

Finally got some time today to start on some paint projects. I’ve got a fairing in the works getting the paint match treatment on a ‘14 low rider. The first step to this process is sanding the factory clear and adding the brilliant silver then reclearing both colors really heavy. Once this hardens up I’ll sand it back perfectly smooth and add the pinstripe between the colors topped with the final smooth glossy float coat of clear. I also got street bob stripped down, all the rock chips/damage repaired and all sanded smooth ready for color.

We’ve got badass dyna in for a full repaint. This bike has some miles on it and it’s due for a refresh. I’ll be using Grant7s “Baracus gold” base with Grant7s “Red Rum” candy. We are going to do some speed shapes to test out throwing in some Grant7s “scarlet” pearls and “Berserker” red metal flake to find that perfect vibrant red. I’m really excited about this and can’t wait to spray out the speed shapes.

Finally getting around to the odds and ends of this thing making some noise. I started the paint prep process first because I knew there would be gaps between steps waiting on product to come and planning spray days. Time to knock out all the little things like exhaust, fuel and brake plumbing. I have some simple wiring to do and the old girl should bark to life. I’m really digging the look of this setup.

She’s finally ready for color! I spent the entire day Saturday blocking this car flat and working on the minor imperfections. At some point I had to just call it good and remind myself that it doesn’t have to be perfect. I’m building this car to be driven and a ton of miles to be put on it and theres no point in trying get it perfect. On that note though it came out awesome. I blocked the whole car in 220 and then 320 and finish DA sanded 400 and it’s as smooth and straight as it’s ever going to get in my care. I can’t wait to lay down some color once it comes. First step is door jams!

The Buick is full steam ahead into a shiny future. I wanted to keep the patina originally but after removing the oxidation it was way too inconsistent and the factory maroon faded to pink. I took a bunch of pictures today to document the cars before and here are a few that show the different colors and textures this car has. I’ve got everything ready here to get started on the multiple step process to a nice finish except the color. I can’t decide what color I want this car to be. Either way I’m not going back to the factory white top. So do I go factory maroon but maybe add metallic flake? Black? Cement grey maybe? Metallic silver? Who knows I haven’t made up my mind yet. What color would you want this car to be if it were yours?

It took longer then I would’ve liked to get to this point but she’s finally resting on her own weight with the new rear end and suspension redesign and is sitting at the perfect height. It’s only tacked together for now but this is a huge step forward so I can roll her back and stab the motor and trans in and set sail on the engine compartment. Things should snowball from here. Once I completely finish the rear end I’ll post the detailed process pictures of how I went about it.

Next up for revival is a 1953 Mercury Monterey. This car is a factory Flat head V8 with a 3 on the tree with overdrive. It sat for at least 13 years with the previous owner and it sat for an unknown amount of time with the owner before that. I have big plans for this car and I’m really excited for this one but the Buick is under the knife now and should be on the road in no time.
